Stock 86 Civic Hatchback DX
About two and a half months ago, I got myself an 86 Civic Dx for about $1,600 Bucks. Immaculate maintenance records, and only had 96,000 miles on it (Now about 100,525). It's a 5-speed and doesn't run the greatest right now (Can't figure out why). It's my daily driver and gets maybe 27 mpg, but should be up near 35 mpg. Also, I can only fill it up to 10 gallons, but the Honda Booklet says it's a 12. I do have a user manual thingy.
I just gave it a tune-up a couple weeks ago. Replaced caps, plugs, oil, etc. There's a couple problems I'm concerned about.
1. When I start it up I have to give it gas for a couple minutes or it stalls out. It didn't do that when I first got it.
2. After it's running finally, I get into 2nd gear and the car pretty much halts. Then every time I press the clutch the engine revs until I drive for about 5 min.
Then again, I'm new to a carb engine and maybe this always happens. I'm a senior in HS graduating this year, and just looking to "fix er' up". (Meaning not a lot of $$$) This is an over time project and I'm just wondering what I can do to make it run better, or even "Beast it up"?
Any input would be helpful. Oh, and it looks as though there was a bird's nest in the vent on the driver's side, and I can't get the vent off to clean it. I mean, it's nice having bits of it flying at you while driving down the freeway, but it's really not necessary lol. So if you know how to get it out, please tell me.
I'll try to post pics.

nice little ride. check all of your vaccuum lines along with the choke.
as for filing the tank, i doubt you'll ever put 12 in. i never do in either of my cars. it's not that big of a deal.
