Default Newby With A 1980 Honda Accord

Hello. My name is Pento and owner of a 80 Honda Accord 1.8L and a 95 240SX. One day looking trough a salvage yard I found this beauty. Zero rust ZERO! just a little bit of surface rust but that's it, original everything, no cracked dash, new tires and alright interior. The only thing that was wrong with it was the "timing belt" (That's what they said) well it resulted a blown head gasket. I was gonna send it to the junkyard, but decided to give it a try to fix it, but so far no luck. I have never worked on a carbureted Honda before, so I'm having a hard time trying to figure it out. I have been looking everywhere for a guide on replacing the head gasket, but seems like there nothing on it, so I was wondering if any of you knew where I could find something that could help me on my mission. I'm sorry for the introduction (not really good at them ).

Here are some pics of my Honda:

That is a great car. Don't junk it. I just bought a Haynes manual on that car from half price books (I live in Houston and they are all over). That manual is all you will find to help you these days.

What I will tell you having owned a 78 Accord is that the head gasket seemed to be a common issue with this engine, though I think they resolved this by the time the 80 models came out.

Pull the head (it is really not that big of a deal) and see is the gasket is blown. if it is, scrape off all off the gasket material from the head and block and make absolutely sure that the top of the block deck is not warped out of spec. If it is I would probably call it a day and punt. Probably not worth the effort to fix it at that point.

Post back if you need more help, I hope it is something minor to fix. That is a nice car.

Thank you. Yea I been trying to figure out, but once I take it out, I will take it to a machine shop so they could check it out if they said that is warped, I know a junkyard that has a 1980 Prelude, so I could take the head of that one and put it on my Honda, that is if that one is not bad too. I would look to see if I could find the manual, thanks again.

^Word. I hate working in the heat. Five hours last Saturday in a metal box. I'm glad to be done with that.
