Hello there!

I am a newbie and have been encountering some troubles with my 1989 Honda Accord SEI and its battery being drained over night.

Brand new battery. After jump starting the vehicle, it will start fine and run fine...but, when shutting the engine down..my radiator fan(s) stay running after the ignition was turned off. Now mind you, this is with a cold engine even.

It hit me that perhaps this is what is causing the battery to be dead - the fans running all night long off and on off and on?

I learned that there is some timer switch or something under the Passenger Seat in the cabin...but, don't want to disconnect that fan timer and continue to drive the vehicle ASSUMING it will disable the fans completely and thus overheat.

Any help or recommendations, for a newbie car guy would be great.

Wire the the fan to a thermostatic control or to a circuit that is only hot when the key is on.

As I said in my original post - I am a "newbie". How would one go about wiring the "sub" fan to a thermostatic control or locating a circuit that is hot when the key is on...where do I access the wiring to do all of this to the fan?

Get a test light, find a spot in the fuse box that has voltage with the key on, and no voltage with the key off.

Wire the fan to that place that you found in the fuse panel. Make sure that it is fused properly.

Make sure you have a proper ground.

If this is done correctly the fan will run anytime the car is running.

The only difference with a thermostatic control is that it has to be wired in with a temperature sensor.
