Default Need some 1983 Honda Civic "S" Help!

For you 2nd Gen Civic owners, you have probably realized that these can be some of the simplest cars to work on and some of the most difficult cars to work on!

One of the most difficult things so far is finding motor parts as Honda does not make them anymore.

Ive got a few questions that someone who works / owns 1st - 2nd gen Hondas might be able to help me out with!

I am trying to take the timing belt out to change it but in order to do that you must remove the lower timing cover.

In order to remove the lower timing cover the crankshaft pulley must be removed. Any ideas on how to hold the pulley still? The space to work with is almost non-existant and the holes in the crankshaft are tiny, maybe enough space to fit a screwdriver (which wont go in due to space)

I am also trying to replace the oil pan gasket but there are a few bolts (closer to the transmission) that are unreachable unless you pull out the support beam that i have circled in red. Even with the bolts out you would not be able to drop the pan with this beam in place.

Any help would be appreciated!

There should be a removable plug in the wheel well that provides access to the lower pulley bolt and I suggest removing that bolt with an impact driver which should be a piece of cake. The use of an impact tool will minimize any rotation of the engine.

You'll also have to remove the driver's side motor mount (although some call it the transmission mount) located just outside of the belts/pulleys and saving the custom shoulder bolts. Be sure to place a jack under the oil pan to maintain engine position.

It's a good idea to replace the water pump at this time and they are pretty cheap these days.
