Default Polishing my " Turd " Honda Z 600

I recently mechanically fixed up this ugly duckling 1972 Honda Z 600 coupe .....and now find it irresistible !. I drove it home for the 1st time yesterday for local debut. I hesitantly displayed it to my wife with a big "TA-DA" ! I squirmed and clenched what seemed like eternity while I waited for an answer. My wife looks it over and yells " SUPER CUTE !!". ??? ....Really ?? That is funny. Totally unexpected. She did not say that when I dragged it out of the field in Oregon City and winched it on a trailer a few years ago briars trailing 20 feet behind. In fact, her comments were much more negative and obviously long forgotten. I am quickly learning " EVERYONE " loves this Z 600. Polishing the paint on this car was the last thing from my mind. Then I had a thought. Why not? It actually can shine. Even with a the paint flaws. What a nice surprise, it looks so much better now. It went from a " 50 foot " paint job to .......a " 15 foot " paint job in one afternoon !. haha What a way to start the new year, fun- fun!

Default Superpower tuning my Honda z600

I'm all about finding the performance edge. Especially, with these little cars. They need every little bit and every little bit counts. I've gone through full performance tune up on this 600cc 4stroke air cooled wonder. Ignition timing is perfect. Cam timing dead on. New coil wires, new points, new plugs and wires. I'm now sorting the carburetor for maximum performance, here I was trying to richen up the jetting a tad by spacing the main needle. It runs much better and feels "pretty" good, but not "stellar" however. Untill I install a wide band oxygen sensor to precisely measure air fuel ratio, it's just a guess. My wide band tuned 25 hp. 360cc 2stroke Subaru 360 hits 62 mph in the same span as this untuned 37 hp 600cc 4 stroke OHC Honda 600. I need to make some more tuning test runs, I'm not exactly sure, but there has got to be more "umph" to be found. I'm bound to get it.

I wonder if a newer style carb would do anything for you. heres a photo for reference

Miles has my original carb right now that was on the car when you got it running for me. He's doing a full rebuild on it for me. He said it was pretty filthy inside and was surprised it even ran. I'm hoping ill be able to cruise at 65-70 when its back on the car.

Before the rebuild I struggled to get over 60mph could maybe hit 65 downhill with the wind

Yikes, those emulsion tubes were nasty.....the gold plaing is geogeous. No doubt getting the carb restored will help top speed. Those tubes atomize fuel corectly and are important

I do have a late model Z 600 carb, except the needle is worn paper thin, no amount of cleaning will fix it. I need a new needle. It bogs and sputters and runs bad.

I rebuilt my N 600 early type carb as a back up, which was in better shape. I can go 65-70 mph it just takes forever to get there....like 3-5 miles of foot to the floor.

I think both carbs are simular performance wise, I don't think there is an advantage to either. The early carb slide piston diagphram is rubber instead of aluminum and no longer avaialble

Yes the shiny parts won't make a difference but hopefully getting the 30 year old deposits of gas will help out. Hope to see u this summer mark. Should be moving back to the NW mid summer

There is no direct fit motorcycle carb. Sorry. Most MC carbs throttle cable pulls directly on the slide piston which will kink when you slam the hood of your
600 car. Honda 600 cars have a throttle shaft pull bell crank as you can see in Erics pictures above.

Hmm, not quite a fan of that system. A bit overkill.
