Re: My 78 Civic CVCC
Looks like I'll be keeping my engine (rebuild) and quite possibly upgrading to a 5 speed. When the engine is pulled I plan to fully refinish the engine bay. To be continued....

At a standstill. I should get to pulling the engine soon. Still trying to figure out if I should ship it off to an experienced rebuilder or deal with it locally.

Finally pulled the engine out. Going to have it rebuilt and swap in a 5 speed. In the meantime, the engine bay will get a much deserved makeover.

Re: My 78 Civic CVCC
Charlie, I remember reading up on doing one of those swaps years ago. Pretty sure you just need to have axles made and mounts. I forget subframes/frame work though.
To keep it on topic, nice ride. I was looking to pick one up for the last 6 years I had one in sight for 5 years. Finally decided to go ask this guy if he would sell it... and it was already gone
How is your front subframe/mount? I know they had a recall for it, it was always rusting.
Keep it og for sure!!

Re: My 78 Civic CVCC
The front mount needs a little work. There's some minor rust to treat. They are very difficult to find. I'll have to keep looking for a spare in good shape.
As far as a swap goes, depending on the swap there's some slight cutting or massaging needed. You need to go to the 1stgen site and look through the various projects. You will find exactly what you need - you just need to make the time and look.

Re: My 78 Civic CVCC
Would it be difficult or worth it to just fabricate a new one? I believe Honda cleared there last one in stock about 4 years ago
I'll be sure to keep checking your thread!

Things are coming along slowly. The engine is still being built, many of the engine bay parts have been undercoated and slowly getting the engine bay prepped for paint.

The lower firewall and rear X-member are now refinished. The motor is still at the rebuilder. The car is now back at the bodyshop to have the metal work done and the engine bay sprayed.

Re: My 78 Civic CVCC
I'm glad you decided to keep your motor and rebuild it even though you're still changing the bottom end. The more original you keep the better imo.
