My 1983 Civic 1300FE projekt
I bought this car in December last year on Ebay for $304...
this is the 83 cruzin with my roommate's 87 Jetta 2 door before we started restoring them
i got bored and tired of looking at the faded powder blue paint. Also notice the tinted side markers, bumper lights and the amber on the taillights.
I did a headlight conversion.... the stock ones sucked
now she's getting broken down for a full body resto and paint. She's origionally a Long Island girl so she's got a lot of undercarriage work to do but it's worth it. I love this car.
shaving the roof gotter molding
replacing the metal on the rockers and smoothing them over
i sanded down the faded bumpers that i origionally tried to spray paint and used truck bed liner to make them look new again along with the new chrome molding
just a sample of the whole car being brought back down to bare metal
the hood and fender after being sanded... and sanded... and sanded
just getting the 1300 out of there. this motor runs like a champ but i want to do a clean d16y8 install.
as of right now, that is where she stands. Hopefully it will be out of the paint shop next week when the floors are done and it see's the paint booth and a nice coat of b-92 p (nightwalk black pearl), then she will begin the motor install.
By the way, if anyone in Jacksonville, FL is looking for an awesome bodyshop, let me know. Mine is being done by Busted Knuckles Customs

Cool project, can't wait to see it unfold.
I really liked the pics when you painted in flat black, it looked good like that. Was that a "rattle can" job?

Awesome, can't wait to see the progress of this car. I had an 83 Civic stationwagon and even though it was only a beater car when i was a teenager, it was one of my favorite cars i've owned.
Keep up the good work!!

Good Stuff man.
My very first car was my parent's old 82' Civic hatch, and they made me pay $500 for it.
Seeing the progess of this car makes me wish I would have kept that car.
Nice build so far, lower it and put the D16 engine in it and the car will be golden.

Re: My 1983 Civic 1300FE projekt (Tb0y)
the front is already lowered but i had to cut the springs. the ride isnt bad at all but i want to find some suspension for it. if you got any suggestions, let me know. and i totaly agree with the d16. i'm getting an awesome deal on a d16y8 with tranny, ecu and harness. it will be easier to use an 88-91 trans but i got one layin around... and i just gotta find a d16z6 harness and ecu. ive been told it will be tons beter to use that one. since im not the one doing the wiring, im gonna take his word for it.

Good luck bro. There is absolutely no aftermarket support for these cars.
After a year of searching, I have discovered that.....
Two companies make lowering springs for our cars. They are both in Australia, and after shipping cost, look to spend around $500 for springs that lower the car only about one inch. Not worth it IMO.
Car is looking great!

Yeah, your exactly right.
When I had my 82' hatch I looked and looked for a suspension that would lower the car a considerable amount and help with handling.
I even called up Eibach too see if they would be interested in making some custom springs for the car but they never got back to me about it.
I also ended up cutting my springs with a torch, I remember it didn't ride too bad until you came across a very uneven or wavy road surface and then it would bounce a little.
Anyway good luck with the build and keep us posted.

Re: My 1983 Civic 1300FE projekt (plumcrazebody)
Man that is one sweet Civic. I have been a fan of these little cars since my uncle first gave me his. He just purchased another '83 and now he plans on doin a few very mild mods.
Anyway back to the post. I would visit Eaton Springs' website (www.eatonsprings.com), they do nothing but build springs. Also give Performance Suspension Technology a look (www.p-s-t.com). I think they still have parts for our Civics left. I ordered a sway bar and shocks/struts for my Civic from them years back. I ordered the KYB shocks/struts from them and they seemed to work well. I never installed the sway bar so if you're interested you can have it for what I bought it for plus shipping of course. Im not sure if its for the front or rear, Ill check tonight.
Well congrats on your project , Im looking forward to seeing your car to completion.
Nick

Re: My 1983 Civic 1300FE projekt (CIVICHB83NI)
From what I understand, the KYB and pretty much all other manufacturers have discontinued their line for the 2G Civic.
I tried to order KYB's from several different vendors, and although at first a few of them thought they could get me something, they all eventually got back with me and said they were out of stock and had no real ETA on them because they were "probably" discontinued.
I ended up buying the only struts I could find, some NOS Monroe brand struts.
From what i can tell, it appears that the KYB's and most other major-brand struts that were available were mostly just replacement parts. I don't know of any performance-oriented strut that is readily available.

I agree on the 2 year search, I live in EP texas and have found any that werent redone in MEXICO. Th car looks good, Cant wait to see the finshed product.
I've been looking through some other company sport compacts to see if any of their vehicles have the similar strut/shock design and i've come up with nothing.
