which motor oil weight for 1983 Civic?
I recently got a 1983 Honda Civic Wagon with the 1.5 CVCC engine. Does anyone know what weight motor oil is recommended by Honda for this car? I ordered a manual for the car, but it won' t be here for probably two weeks. Meanwhile, I need to change it, but I have no idea which is the correct oil to use. I am seeing many references to 5w20 and 5w30 on the internet, but that is for newer Hondas. Also, does Honda recommend regular or synthetic oil? Thanks for any help!

Hi, thanks for the reply. I did some more searching and got lucky, an Ebay seller has some example scans of a 1983 Civic owner's manual on their auction page, which just happen to include the engine oil specs. For my area here in the Caribbean, 10w40 is recommended.
Thanks

Oil Weight
I'm in Florida and I run 3 quarts of straight 40w with 1 quart Lucas oil in the summer and 3 quarts 10W40 with 1 quart Lucas oil in winter. Never had a problem.... Thinking of selling mine. It's in great shape. Owned it for 8 years now. Time to upgrade but I'm worried I won't find something newer as dependable as this. oggy25m@yahoo.com

all depends on how much your oil pumps per hour. With that, count in on how hard you drive, which for an old car shouldn't be much if any at all, should determine the rest.
There is an oil article on team-integra.com that explains the oil and its weight. Its a good read.
