Default Jumping tach on carbureted honda

So I just purchased an '89 Accord LX and it's carbureted. This is my first carbureted honda and it seems to run okay other than the tach started jumping like crazy today and it bogs a bit at low RPM.

I had the same problem with my '91 CRX and simply changing the distributor fixed that problem because the igniter was the problem.

At first I figured it was just the distributor but then I got to thinking that since it's carbureted it probably doesn't have all the electrical goodies inside that a fuel injected distributor would.

Can anybody shed some light if the jumping tach problem could still be caused by the distributor or if it's simply a grounding issue?

a coil / igniter setup is kinda necessary for the car to run. carb or not does not affect that.

there was someone on here selling a brand new carb too. you outta grab that if you can get it cheap. i hate carbs and got rid of mine, so i can't help you there. a guy i work with rebuilds them all the time though.

I ordered a used distributor off eBay hopefully that fixes it.

What kind of set up did you use to replace your carb?
