Is it a D16 or a ZC or?
I have bought a totally unused crate Honda motor, said to be for first generation CRX, but I have gotten so confused with contradictions in how to identify it so now it turn to you.
It is a "brown/golden top" 1590cc twin cam. I'm quite sure about that. There is a stamp on the block saying: ZC1-0100005. The cam belt is marked: 14400-PG6-0040 129R24. The cam belt cover is marked: PJ1 770. And on a few places you can see markings: PG6. The cylinder head reads: Hm 4.
Can someone here tell me from this info what kind of motor it is? And, what kind of power output it has in original setup?

How many bolts hold the valve cover on. If its 4 Bolts its the JDM 84-87 Civic/CRX ZC Browntop.
If its 7 or 8(i cant remember the exact number) its going to be the 88-91 Civic/CRX ZC.

4 bolts. So I guess it's a JDM ZC engine. Sweet! But it's just the engine. No flywheel, clutch, gearbox, injection, engine mounts or distributor. Will this motor go straight into a european 84-87 CRX? Cheers!

No receipt. I bought it from a guy who couldn't fit it into his mk II CRX without mods to the engine mounts and he had bought from another guy who just had had it laying around. I guess that is how it has survived unused, just laying around at a lot o places... I don't know. But sure is a sweet looking piece of motor. I am thinking of using it as a cupboard until it goes into a car.

Yea if the valve cover has 4 bolts its going to be the 84-87 Style. With the front motor mount that bolts to the front of the block where you might think a Power Steering Braket would be.
