d13a3. Worth my while?...
alright, I just bought an '87 SI, sporting the amazing D13. I bought it for the anti-gas guzzler, but now: a question.
The d13; worth it? Aftermarket support? I mean, I would like to be one of the cool kids building non-vtec, dohcs, but I want some power too.
B16? Swap? B18? ****, k20? (joke)
Opinions.
Ps: 5-8000k budget. Thanks.

D13A3?
Do you mean EW3? If it's an 87 Si, it's fuel injected and it's a 1.5 liter engine.
The only thing close to the D13 would be the EV1 engine, which was a carb'd 1.3 liter found in some CRXs.
If you are hungry for a swap, the easiest thing to do I hear is the 1g Integra D16A6 engine.

Re: (~sp33~)
there is support, you've just got to look for older parts. the 1.5 EW has a lot of potential, but not quite as much as the D16a1 from 86-87 Integras. either one, you'll have to be searching for parts anyways. a B is nice, i'm doing one, but too many people think they are too heavy. whether or not that's true, i don't think it is. especially for the longer civic wheelbase. but, B series will be EXPENSIVE if you do it. you're looking at around $600 for mounts and linkages, plus axles, plus the integra knuckles and brakes..

I'm sorry, I meant d15a3. I can't really type on this iPhone.
So: b series; honestly, I don't think for the money/time its worth it, though the power gain wouldn't hurt(as much as the weight would).
I got a z6 out of my 94 del slow. Easier swap? Im leaning that way, mainly because the motors sitting right here, and okay, no dohc, whatever, I'm sure that motor still makes a decent gain over the stock '87 si motor.
Now; besides the motor. My searches for suspension upgrades for this si are few and far between. I'll track race it stock, I don't care, but I mean, tell me that a little drop in an old civ doesn't look sick, not to mention benefits for the track.
Final word: build an expensive(which is fine), but sweet civ as old as me, or give in: buy an EG?

how dedicated are you and how nice is the car you are starting with?
suspension will be pretty difficult to find. your best bet is to locate an old set of yellows somewhere. unlike newer hondas, they've been discontinued. tein made some for a short run, but i don't know if they are continuing right now.
del sol motor takes a LOT of work to bolt in. you have to fab up all new mounts.

The only 88+ motor that works in these cars without custom mounts comes from the 1g integra. Newer D series wont bolt up.
