Default Clutch wont engage for honda crx 86

this is just sad when i was on my way home from one of my friends and i barely got to my block, i came to a stop sign put the clutch in and put it in neutral and brake then i put the clutch in then i heard a snap thinking the line broke, and while i had the clutch pedal pushed in all the way, i was unable to change it to first gear from neutral to take off in a four way intersection... but i managed to push the car by myself and pick it up in speed and revved the car up let it slip in gears with out grinding and the clutch... This has been a habit (I don't even grind the gears when up-shifting and no way i can downshift without grinding the gears) previously.. But then now i have started using the clutch more while upshift, (obviously always while downshifting) and putting it in neutral. What could have gone wrong??? I need some professional ideas..

Thank you for taking your time reading this!

EDIT: I noticed after the clutch wont engage, the pedal feels like it has less force, like a spring broke or something but still the pedal can move back to engaged state.

While it is possible that cable could break or stretch... I have never heard of such a thing happening to a Honda.

A more likely possibility (if it is not the throw out bearing) is that the clutch pedal connection to the clutch cable has broken. The top of the clutch pedal that connects to the cable is made from fairly soft metal and it is not unusual for that connection to break.

Okay guys, problem has been solved, It appeared to be the adjuster needed a readjustment and i guess it got unhooked so it was pulling the cable freely while it wasn't pulling on the release rod.

This had scared me ****-less guys but I'm so relieved that it was just a minor adjustment I had to make. Thanks for your inputs guys!
