87 CRX...worth it?
Well im looking to get out of my vehicle, i have a budget of about $400 a month solid to put into a car, i need to get it to pass an inspection. Its a little beat up but no big deal.
The car is $800, its a 1997 CRX Si 5 speed. When i gear down to second it pops out of gear and the clutch slips when dumping around red line.
Is this a good start to a potentially wicked project? A motor swap is definately in the future, the B16 seems like the easiest when getting into a CRX, but i can find little to no info on doing it in the first gen cars.

If the chassis is in good enough condition then why not? Just keep in mind the dedication and the deep wallets that go into it. If your thinking B16 at 400 a month it'll realistically take 3-4 months just to get the motor (shipped and all), two months to buy the basic parts to get it in right (add another month or two if you don't know how to or someone to do it for you). Then add intake, exhaust, fuel delivery and etc and it could be even another 2-3 months. Now don't forget that everything has to go smoothly or add another month or so. My advice would be to seriously price it out and overprice it would be even wiser. And also know that you won't be content after with just a b16 motor, u might wanna accessorize too. good luck tho, we've all been through it

yeah i def missed the fact ur in the wrong forum... Go away bum.
just kidding. Really tho, grab a pen, paper and go on ebay. Best way to price things out. If your willing to make this a year long project then go for it. If not save your money for a bit and buy a more reliable ricer

On top of buying the swap, you have to think about the wiring harness conversion, axles, motor mounts... Also, add some for all the little forgotten and unexpected things you will need. Trust me they will pop out of no where.

red pepper racing dot com is a good resource. well, the only resource truly.
if you do want to get this car, be prepared to spend a while tracking down the right parts, finding things that work, and being prepared to spend a lot of time researching proper methods..
speaking of which, in order to do a B16a swap you have to swap out mounts, axles, knuckles, brake calipers, wiring..
and while you are at it, make sure to change out the front torsien bars to AT LEAST 27mm or greater, and if you want to go low you have to find a source for shortened shaft shocks. koni have discontinued shocks, tokico also.. tein made a small run, and that's truly your best bet..

not when a lot of items are completely discontinued and not available. a lot of the people that build these cars work at dealerships. one in particular in new york has sourced a lot of NOS parts that are the last ones in existance.

Re: 87 CRX...worth it?
sure he can.. do me a favor, look for the lower window molding for the rear quarter windows.. if you can find some, like REALLY find some, then they are in very, very high demand. last set was bought a year and a half ago..

Lol i wasnt tyring to start anything, but when i asked about new seats and a few mechanical parts he made a call and found them is all, theres no doubt that alot of parts are still impossible to find if they exist at all.
