86 Honda Civic Si....Idle Issues :(
Hello all,
I am new to this forum, and I am hoping to find some help/advice. I have an 86 Honda Civic Si Hatchback. I love this car, I mean it's not in MINT condition by any means, but it has character and other than this issue it is having, it runs pretty well. What is happening is that normally it will idle at 1000RPMs, but lately it has been dropping to 50-100 RPMs. It will go down and come back up, but mostly it stays down and seems like it wants to shut off. It used to do this when I got it, but when I would push on the gas it would shut off on me..it no longer does that. However if it is idling like that and then I turn the key off, and try to start it, it doesn't turn over unless I wait for awhile(10 minutes or longer). I have replaced the plugs, the plug wires, the cap/rotor and the fuel filter. As suggested by my local Honda dealer, I checked with a vacuum seal leak with starter fluid as well. I somehow came across the ECU codes for an 87, and it came up a "crank angle sensor error" but I've been told I don't have one of those. I am hoping to find someone that can hook this baby up to a Honda Diagnostic, but figured I would ask if there were any ideas as to what could be the problem?
Thanks!

I had a similiar problems, and when i was in first gear it used to sputter alot. I realized it was the carb because i started the car and it used to vibrate a lot, and when i gave it a little gas it stopped. Im not sure if its the simliar issue but just try cleaning the carb.

I was going to ask the same thing, what code is it producing. Fyi the 86 si has a crank angle sensor, it is in the distributor. I have a red 1986 honda civic si myself. But, the best way to tell what you have is by giving the code on the ecu, which is under the passanger seat. That truly helps in diagnosing any problem. Another thing to consider, the SI is fuel injected. That means no carb.
