86 CRX Cali Emissions - Gear Ratio Adjust???
Trying to get this 5-speed 1986 Honda CRX HF to pass California state emissions. I had the catalytic converter/muffler/pipes replaced with CA-approved parts, it shouldn't have any issue passing.
However I've brought it to a few smog check stations and they haven't been able to run the car on their dyno because the RPM is not in the correct range. A couple smog test shops think I might need to adjust the gear ratio or something similar. However, I'm not sure that many mechanic shops are proficient with old Hondas, I want to take it somewhere and have it done correctly the first time. I was referred to the state referral program but I've been told they will price gouge me for a s simple tweak. I'm located in Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley specifically. Thanks for any advice! Are the RPM reading too high or too low?
Is it possible the transmission was swapped at one point for a CRX Si transmission? |
Re: 86 CRX Cali Emissions - Gear Ratio Adjust???
Thanks for the response! One of them said it was too high in 1st gear and too low in 2nd gear. I do know for a fact the transmission was never swapped, my family bought it new in 86

basically a test only station should do the job wo any issues
or call the smog referee in sacto, in fact it is the bureau of automotive repair, BAR and tell them you are being giving BS, and want a reputable smog station, |
