I picked up a 85 si other day and it has no reverse.
If you move the shifter into where it should be there is nothing there.
My thought was the gear is stripped no big ive done a 5th gear swap on a bseries easy peasy stuff.


THEN TODAY....

I was driving around an noticed 1st gear was a little hard getting into. Minor syncro grind maybe needs clutch cable tightened up. I took it in and out of 1st gear a few times just to kinda "feel it".

I came to a stop sitting still put it in N then 1.. then N.. then 1 to "feel it"then..when I went to neutral and let clutch up.

I freaked out because wellum you have to go to neutral to get to 2 3 4 5.

So I just put it back in first and took off.

I then shifted to 2nd gear no problem......

Came to a stop.

Went right back to how it was before -no reverse -neutral is neutral




I tighten cable a bit drove a few more times today all peachy just no reverse.
Clutch holds great no slip at all.
No grinds any gear except a tiny nibble getting into first if not at a dead stop.

My guess is my reverse gear snap ring or something fell off.

I didn't know if anyone has heard of that. I didn't have any luck searching around.

I read a few people saying reverse disappeared like mine then just came back one day never to have problem again.

Someone said something about reverse getting stuck. That it frees itself sometimes? Ive never opened up a dseries trans.

Maybe I can fill trans with say diesel or kerosene and let it sit overnight then refill with correct fluid?
