I am a new classic Honda owner. I think I paid a bit too much, but the man I bought it from was 81 years old and drove it off the lot 27 years ago and it still looks near new. He had practically a mini-kragen store in the back because he said he buys things in twos if there is a sale. He also had every receipt for any transaction dealing with the car. So the money was worth it to me.

My question is,what would you suggest I watch for or take special care of since I don't know that much about cars and really love this one and want to take good care of it?

It is a 5-speed with 200,700mi on it. The only other owner kept up with every oil change and scheduled maintenance (it easily passed smog a month ago). I wish I could take a class to learn basic mechanics so I could do everything myself. - He also gave me the detailed mechanics manual for the car so I am going to study up.

I would appreciate any suggestions!

Nice find! The only thing I would do is keep doing what he did! Keep the oil changed often, run Honda MTF oil in the transmission, flush the coolant yearly, and do regular tuneups. I don't know where you live, but these cars are very susceptible to rust, so if you're in a snowy area, I wouldn't drive it much during the winter if you can avoid it. Keeping it garaged, or under a carport when it's parked will be the biggest thing for keeping the body and interior in good shape...

Anytime something small comes up, get it fixed right away. If you start putting off little things on the car, eventually they will all add up and you'll find the whole car will be falling apart. Remember, it's an old car, even as dependable as they may be, so it will be a little more work than a new car. But it will still be cheaper than a car payment and insurance on a new car.

That's pretty much it for this car. Properly maintained, that engine will last an ungodly amount of time. For that car, two hundred thousand miles is practically a break-in period, lolol. I learned to drive in an '83 Accord back in 1985, lolol.

Thanks for the comments. I have found two tiny specks of rust that I need to buff out so I'm going to do that tomorrow. My plan is definitely keep on top of everything so I can keep it as best I can the way the original owner did!

Take care of the rust rush! i bought a 88 accord and the motor ans trsn are great! like New!!! but it has rust everywere!!!!
