Ok. I will be the first to admit that this car is my baby... even saying that I understand some of what is wrong with it... My questions are - How much of a pain is it to change and Automatic (ew) to a manual in this model? and How much of a pain is it to replace the Air Condenser? <I live in the south this is needed.

Oh yeah and I bought this car 3 years ago for $300. I have replaced the radiator, starter, and water pump.

that's a DX..

in order to change to a manual, it's not terrible, but not too easy. need pedals, cable, trans, clutch, flywheel, shift linkages, cut a hole in the floor..

The engine is HF .... trust me I've tried buying DX parts and they don't connect into the existing wiring. HF parts do.

the DX is the only trim level with an auto tranny for the 1g CRX
though it shouldn't be too hard to convert it you can get a M/T for it for dirt cheap i found a rebult one up here WA with a 3 year 36k mile warranty for 90 bucks

yeah, same thing i was thinking. and the HF uses same connectors. problem is if you're getting parts for the wrong years. 84-85 had different connectors on some parts than 86-87. definitely a DX.

So I really like the Honda 1980's CRX. I am looking to get my first car, and I think that a CRX is the right car. But I want the CRX HF (for the fuel efficiency). I found a 1987 Honda Civic CRX at a kinda sketchy Auto trader place. But I can't really tell if it is a HF engine that will get me good gas mileage or not. It only has 101,000 miles on it (i think pretty good for an car that old). I called to see what type of engine it had (the D15B6 is HF) and they didn't even know what I was talking about. The car is going for $1600. What do you guys think?

1600 seemd pretty high for such an old crx , might as well buy a newer Si for that price
