Default 1986 Honda Accord LXI FI 2.0

I recently purchased a 1986 Accord LXI Hatchback that had been sitting for a year. For a 22yo car it only had 168000 miles on it. The intake (on the outside of the filter was filled with acorns). It just took an EFI relay solder and a new fuel pump to get it going.

Now that it is going, cylinder # one is behaving improperly. At idle it seems as though it is dead. I know it is getting spark. I know it is getting gas, because the plug comes out wet. By itself, cylinder #1 had 75# of compression. 2,3,4 had 150 each. With a little oil put to the top of cylinder #1 it reached 150# but wouldn't keep it for long.

As I look in through the spark plug hole I can see the valves working up and down and everything looks good under the valve cover. However it looks like one of the intake valves is opening a tad more than the other when I watch through the sparkplug hole. That sounds like it could be a possible culprit.

At highway speed it has all the power and speed I want. When I take it out for a long run (and yes, I have done the Italian tune up, but this is an FI) I come back and pull the plug and it looks as though it is firing fine. Dry, light brown, tip good. Let me know what you think.

Has anyone else dealt with this sort of thing before, or do you have any ideas? Thanks for you help!

Jack

Try checking & adjusting your valve lash. May have some rings wearing as that is what the oil is making up for; lack of ring seal..

Definitely give it a valve adjust! It's probably never been done on that car. If that doesn't work, it's possible you had a ring stick after sitting for so long, and it may have been damaged or damaged the cylinder wall.

I have the manual. I can read. Um. I have never done this before. Can you dumb down the lash check for me a little? Number one piston at TDC, what am I feeling for in the intake valves? I have gauges of all kinds. I know how to adjust the valves. Where do I put them? Then where should the exhaust valve be at that same time, or what should I set the timing wheel to in order to set that valve? 1 2 4 3 right????

Thanks

Sorry to jack your thread, but do you mind checking what your fuel pressure is supposed to be at idle and WOT from the manual? Would be greatly appreciated.

Default fuel pressure

Hey man no prob. Do you need me to check for you or me? I can send you the manual in PDF if ud like.

I haven't tested the pressure but I have replaced the fuel pump and the fuel filter. The pressure regulator seems to be within specs too.
Did you have some ideas for me to look for? I will check this out when I get home and forward the manual to you if ud like.

Peace!
Jack

Cheers for the reply.

My problem is that i need to replace my FPR on my civic, and the only fuel injected Honda in the wrecking yard is an SI accord. I was wondering if they had the same pressure specs. It's cool, i don't need the whole manual, though if you could see if the specs are the same as the civic's 36psi at idle and 46psi at WOT then i would really appreciated it.

Thanks again.

35 +/- 3 at idle seems to be the only figure indicated. The manual I have does not show anything for above idle.

The baseline is at least the same.

Good luck.

Back to the car at hand. Does anyone know where I can get a set of rings for this engine? I plan to do a head gasket workup and ring job when spring comes. Till then,I plan on driving the heck out of it and changing the oil more often than necessary. I enjoy doing all of this so it's not like it's going to be a burden. Any further help is as always appreciated.
