1986 civic performance upgrades?
I am a newbie looking for a little advice about an 86 civic dx. I've seen lots of information about performance upgrades and swaps for later models. But not much for an 86 carburated version.
I would like to simplify the complex vacuum-controlled smog system and gain a little extra horsepower.
Has anyone done anything like replacing all the vacuum-controlled smog crap with a basic carburator?

Re: 1986 civic performance upgrades? (86civicDX)
check http://www.redpepperracing.com as there are a lot of "de-vac" mods on there. people do that all the time and retain the stock carb, too.

There is not a lot of "bolt on" stuff available but there is plenty of potential to unlock in that engine. Basically, you will need to get the engine to breather better and raise the compression. This involves a set of side draft carbs, port & polish plus a more agressive cam.
Devac'ing the engine is not a real performance builder, it is more cosmetic than anything else.
Cheap and easy performance boost? Tear your distributor apart and replace the centrifical advance springs with lighter springs from the hardware store (cost about fifty cents).
And go to Redpepperracing.com!
