1983 civic 1500cc head bolts
i am building a 1983 honda 1500cc engine in a civic.
i am putting the head on and noticed all the bolts are the same length except one which is sorter.
would anyone know where the short bolt goes?

First, I hope that you have the shop manual. Second, I've been fiddling with Gen II Civics for over ten years and have never come across this issue. Just how much shorter is this bolt?
With that said, I am not aware of a "shorter head bolt" so I suspect that the odd one is not original. OTOH, new head bolts are unobtainium but it's OK to use the old ones.

yes i have a shop manual.
the short bolt is about 1/2" an inch shorter than the rest.
i am 100% sure the shorter bolt is OEM Honda, this engine has never been apart and the head has never been removed until i pulled it.
yes i agree, re-using the OEM bolts is fine, if its not broken why replace it.

I think it goes here. I ran into the same issue a couple months ago. If you look at the head all the bolt locations but one will be the same height. I think the short one goes under the starter gear. Good luck
