1980 Civic resurrection question
hi.
what mods should be made if i were to install a B20B engine with B16A head into a 1980 Civic? by mods i means what kind of mounting mods should i consider? i am thinking of also getting the S4C gearbox with LSD n matching it with the engine.
iv got the DC2 R knuckes, with Mugen M7 rims off my friend. how would i install it to the car?
any other mods i should make?
thanks :D

Re: 1980 Civic resurrection question
Everything will have to fabricated to mount the motor. There are no kits available that I can find to mount the B20B (or any other motor).
You may want to consider the difficulties of mounting the motor before you worry about what mods to make, just my opinion.
If you do get it done, take good notes and pictures! I would like to something like that with our 83 civic!

thanks for the reply mate :D
first off, about mounting, i have some contacts who are able to fabricate some mounts to go into the engine bay. iv also been told that the clearing for the gearbox would be alright in the car.
secondly, my concern is would the chassis be able to withstand the power of the engine? i have seen some videos on YouTube where this dude from Malaysia fitted in a B18C engine in his 1980 Civic, and it looked alright. he didnt even need rollcages. im not sure though whether he installed some bars to stiffen the chassis.
how bout the hubs for the wheels? i plan on replacing the stock hubs with ones that could fit my Mugen M7s, which are 114 PCD, as compared to the stock 100 PCS. also i might need the hubs as i might need the stopping power if i were to install the B20B engine. as i mentioned, iv already got the DC2 Type R hubs.

Re: 1980 Civic resurrection question
Wow, what a strange BCD (Bolt circle diameter) for the Mugen wheels. I am no expert but that seems strange. I thought they were all 100 mm. I have no advice for that.
As for brakes, it seems that a 1st gen Accord or Prelude can be direct bolt on for the lowly Civic. i am going to do this to my 83 as soon as I get if running again. I am doing a full rebuild on the 1300 it had in it. It has not been easy to get parts mind you.
I have searched a bunch on chassis strength and there is a dude in the USA that is running serious HP on a 1980 civic and has had no issues with the chassis bending. The main problem seems to be the axle half shafts stripping the splines out.
Good luck and have fun, this is a good car to work on and drive. I have been flagged down several times by people wanting to know WTF that car is...

Um it would be way easier to sell those 4x114 Mugen M7s and buy the correct 4x100 versions. Or they sell 4x100-4x114 hub adapters for that but your wheels will stick out 1"+.
