1980 Civic 1500DX. Last ran 10 years ago. Now runs everyday with MR-5's
Hey guys,
New here but this would be my 26th Honda that ive owned. However, this one is special since it is Alita's Civic (my old neighbor) and ever since I was in middle school I have asked her to sell it to me! She always said no, get away from my porch, but after college and many years later she cuts me off around our old neighborhood while I was riding my '77 DT250 Enduro and I followed her home. Only to find that she would actually sell it to me, as she has a new "red car".
She now has a red Nissan versa and didn't drive the civic since it had many problems. The civic was towed home since I am a safety type of guy and did not like the old 12" Kuhmos from late 80's.
Since then I Have cleaned the Webber carb and replaced every gasket on the EM engine, new bearings, new brake system parts, new AC parts, and all fluids to make this car a 34 year old 39mpg DD with AC. I also cut it with Maguire's heavy compound to bring some shine while I save up for a $5k restoration paintjob.
I had some old 14x6 Mugen MR-5 wheels out back so I wrapped them in some new 155/55/14 Federal Formozas and made the ride so much more pleasurable. Also made the car look like a Starlet out of San Juan!
The car will have full B&G suspension by the end of year, after that It will most likely be around with no changes until I have 5k for paint. The color will be either mustard yellow or pasty white when it enters paint stage. The engine will be sent away for inspection to be able to safely handle a new cam, oversize pistons, aggressive valve job and individual throttle bodies. The engine will begin its process after '15 spring break. The interior will remain red and restored by another professional by trade.
I did consider swapping a single cam vtec but found so little support that I figured I would get Dax Sheppard's blessing by keeping it stock.
I have no pictures from when I purchased but it was not maintained, washed, or looked at for the past 10 years.. there was no red color inside the engine bay since the "re-circulatory exhaust carburetor warmer" was just hanging around making the engine bay filthy with black soot everywhere.

Nice car, if it were me, I wouldn't change anything. Just restore it to original and press on from there...
