Default 1978 civic 1200 rear engine right hand drive conversion(pics)

ok this project has been going on for sometime. i call it project wheelie. the basic lay down is the rear floor of the car was completely rusted out and could barely hold the suspension any more. so at first i cut out the rear floor board and was going to update the rear suspension with 95 civic drums and trailing arms. well one beer led to another to make it short. i had a just about everything i needed to make it rear engine. im using a stock d16z6 as mock up for the moment.later it will be a built turbo motor. created all my subframing to hold the whole front suspension off of a 95 civic. using aluminum as a floor and 2x2 for the framing. just recently i decided to take it to another level and make it right hand drive. this has made the whole thing extremely interesting now. ill have to explain more later. just wanted to start this thread and see if any other classics are running around modded up.

more to come later

All I can say is that this thing better get finished and get running, because otherwise, what a waste of a classic Honda.

Good idea though, takes some big one's to do it. In for the build!

would this be the car i think it is?

if it is, it's definately not a waste cause that 1200 was trashed before they even got it.. if it's not, then i dunno......

so if this is going to be a wheelie machine you'll need independent right and left rear brakes and pedal set ups... I dont see that in your pictures???

eat me. yeah this is jason. who are you if i may ask. you were right the car was falling apart before i started messing with it

mschu- thats later. everything is still in the mock up stage.im still trying to figure a bunch of things out. being that im using all 95 civic stuff in a car that is 29yrs old and not made for. theres not even brake lines yet. i was thinking of using clutch master cylinders mounted to 2 e-brake handles. tap them into the rear lines. thats just an idea for now though. you made a valid point on that though. i will have to investigate how other cars of this nature control the rear wheels. im pretty sure most v8s have rear drum brakes or atleast calipers designed to have an e-brake. the calipers on the 78 at the moment are front calipers.

dune buggys use a hydro. cutter brake.....look into that. it just allows you to hook up the rear hydros normally and use them independently, too.

That thing needs a raced out Mugen widebody conversion. The radiator scope is ugly and the rear wheels need attention but other than that its pretty crazy!
