My name is Dave and I am from the S2ki forum. The island members of S2ki are hosting a Poker Run for charity. The proceeds are going to Camp Shawnigan here on the island. Thus far I have only posted in the S2000 forums (S2ki and S2k.ca), and NSXPrime, CSXDriver, ClubRSX and we already have 70 cars attending with 126 people.
54 S2000's
10 NSX's

We have great sponsorship this year including the Island Honda Dealers, A&J Racing, Richmond/Yaletown Auto Spa, TBC Kart Racing, Mt Washington Ski Resort, The BlackMarks Online Clothing, and many more. This event is being hosted by the Island S2000 Owners and the entire weekend will be professionally captured with a DVD being produced. T-shirts are also available.

For those of you that have pre-registered, I need to start collecting entry money. I still have a lot to pay for including food, and staff, not to mention we have to start firming up who is actually attending and who cannot.

I realize that most of you are looking at at least a ferry ride and a night stay on the island but I have done all I can to arrange for inexpensive rooms at Mt Washington. Please also remember that every meet I have attended in Vancouver, I have stayed over night and caught a ferry. :-)

Anyway I will be posting up the rules of the poker run and all of that this week. I am still attempting to nail down one more checkpoint making it 7 all together. Maps are being put together as well in the next couple of weeks.

Again please help me to make this a memorable event. Come out for the meet and poker run and cruz. I want to make this an annual event but it all depends on the this, the first one.

We have many sponsors and the prizes and gifts are listed on the Poker Run web site located at: http://vipokerrun2010.elocas.com
You can also pay online at the web site so the cost isn't so big as you get closer. That is part of the reason I started advertising this event so early was to help with payments. Only $50.00 from each ticket is going towards the Charity, the remainder is food and prizes.

Thanks again and please get your money in if at all possible. See you at the event!!!

Brendon12 did you get your answers? Check out the web site but basically it is a rally that has nothing to do with speed. You stop at checkpoints along the route and pick up a playing card. At the awards dinner at the end, we all display our cards and the highest, second highest, third highest, and the lowest hands all win cash prizes.

There is also a silent auction and a nice dinner up at Mt Washington resort (the ending location of the poker run).

You don't have to know anything about poker and I will provide you with a sheet of paper showing the top poker hands...,

Really it is just about getting out and seeing the other cars and having a good time for a good cause.

Posted to S2Ki Poker Run thread today...,

You are being contacted as you expressed interest in the Vancouver Island Poker Run for Charity on July 24th weekend.

It is getting closer and for those of you that have not paid you will get more and more of these notes, sorry.

As stated in my previous notes I have to start breaking up the prize money and the prizes and auction items. I need to firm up the numbers for the dinner and for the starting times of the event. I need to get maps and starting envelopes together for every participant. Our checkpoint spnosors need to know how long they need to supply volunteers for and how long they need to maintain the checkpoint and what times to expect cars to start rollinging in, I need to purchase supplies such as cards. Basically it is time to start thinking about paying for the event so I can get a good idea of how many participants we are going to have.

I realize that it is still over 2 months away but I hope you can appreciate the planning and coordination that this takes. The price that we got for the facilities and dinner up at Mt Washington depended on attendee numbers. We took the early registration and guessed that we would have approx 100 guests in all.

Here is what I need you to do if at all possible:
1) If you're for sure not attending let me know and I will remove you from the list. Sorry to see that you can't attend but perhaps next year if the first one is a success.

2) If you're coming and just can't afford the cash right now, well we need to have the money in by latest July 1st. We can only have a handful of late participants after that date. The very latest date for payment would be July 10th. After that we will have to change the entry fee (to cover late costs) from $75.00 for driver and car to $100.00 and for driver car and passenger from $110.00 to $125.00. Also don't forget that if you pay after June there is HST to be added. If this is the case then at least fire me a PM stating that for sure your coming and the money is coming and give me a rough idea of when. I may be able to cover your costs as long as you are absolutely sure you will make it here.

3) Pay ahead of time to get it out of the way and REALLY help me out. You can pay via Cash, Snail Mail, or you can go to our online payment site (thanks to the BlackMarkers) and pay with PayPal or Credit Card. The site address is: http://vipokerrun.elocas.com

Thanks in advance and thanks for helping me make this event a success and one we can do yearly, and lastly thanks from the kids that you will be helping send to camp..., putting a smile on a childs face.

Remember also this is all about getting out for a cruz and getting together for an event other than standing in a parking lot. Lets really do our best to make it out to this event and making it the success it can be. We have loads of sponsorship and everyone has been great. Go to the web site to review the prizes donated so far.

Thanks Again

This event is one month away. I need to have the final numbers and payment for the dinner (food and staff) buy the first of July. Beyond that we can only adjust the numbers slightly. We cannot accept payment for the event at the event because some things need to be ordered and paid for in advance.

Please it is time to commit and pay for your tickets. If you can at least confirm attendance for me so you are in the count please do.

I have already invested in non-refundable deposits for the facilities..., please help me to make this a successful event for all especially the kids we help send to summer camp. This event is a GO no matter what due to the commitments I have already made. Please purchase your tickets as soon as possible.

I will be posting the schedule of events and all details soon. Check the web site for payment options and latest details.

It has come to my attention that participation is down because of the costs of coming over to the island. Let me say that if you are really stuck for cash you could easily make it over on the Saturday morning without issue. You could do the run and then have dinner and leave shortly after dinner. There is about 2 hours between arrival at Mt Washington and when dinner happens. This is the auction/reception time and as such you can all get rested up. The Duke Point Ferry leaves at 10:45 and the Ferry to Horseshoe Bay leaves at 9:35 and both of them are about an hour from where we will be so it is completely possible to make either one.

I am more than willing to rush things along once we get to the mountain. I could even ask that dinner be served maybe half hour early at 6:30-7:00 or even a bit earlier than that once I figure out the staggard start times.

Something to think about ...,

Anyone that was/is having any issues with accomodations, please contact this person:

[email protected]

She is head of reservations at the Mountain Resort and knows all about our event. Some people have told me that they have called Mt Washington to get accomodations and are being told that they know nothing about the event and that you need to book at least two days or you would have to pay a one day penalty..., This is not true.

There are many accomodations on the mountain that have nothing to do with Mt Washington itself. You may have contacted one of those. The email above puts you in touch with head of reservations for Mt Washington and they have offered us deals starting at $119.00 per night (based on the type of room), and they have waived the "two nights only" rule for us.

I am sorry for the confusion and wanted to straighten it out right away.

There has been some confusion on the accomodations at Mt Washington. Some apparently have been told that they don't know anything about our event and have been given a variety of different pricing. Also heard that someone was told that they had to book 2 night minimum. That is "nomally" the case up there but in our case all of this has been waived.

To stop the confusion I contacted Mt Washington Management again to have it all explained to me and I am going to cut and paste the response here:

============Start CUT================================

Hi Dave,

That's what I suspected. Pam De Boer does manage some private properties
at the resort, but she has a company called Peak Accommodations, which
is not related to Deer & Bear Lodge. Our booking company (managed by
Cathy) is called Slopeside. Both Cathy & Pam (different Pam) at
Slopeside are perfectly aware of the special rates & conditions that we
discussed. As long as your participants contact them, there will be no
problems whatsoever.

They are best reached as follows:

([email protected]) ([email protected]) or toll
free: 1-877-845-4499

Slopeside is "our" team that manages the majority of both Deer & Bear
Lodges. Please make your participants aware that there are also other
companies that have rooms & suites in these buildings. These other
companies do not offer these special deals. As mentioned, there are many
other booking companies around the resort as well. None of them are
affiliated and do not have these deals except for Slopeside.

Regarding your participant's comment about "double occupancy", he's
actually understanding the term backwards. The $119.00 quoted is for a
one bedroom suite, and the double occupancy means that up to two guests
may stay for that price. It's not $119.00 per person. Should they wish
to add a third guest on the living room pull out, for example, it would
be an additional $15 fee. Again, "Slopeside" will allow your group to
stay one night with no penalty.

As long as this contact info gets to your guests, there will be no issues.

Good luck & keep me posted.

Best,

Robb

Hope that clears it up. If anyone did book rooms and didn't get the deal, either cancel and rebook or contact the people above to see what can be done. Mt Washington is really working hard with us to make this happen so please if anyone got bad information, this is the latest word from them, and I appologize for any confusion but I didn't hear about this till just recently.

Default Re: Vancouver Island Poker Run For Charity July 24th

Just signed on Campus Honda of Victoria as a sponsor.

This means that we now have all the Island Honda Dealerships on line with sponsorship of our event. A big thanks to the Island Dealers :tipwink:

Campus Honda will be one of the Starting Checkpoints to help dispurse the start so we don't have a bunch of cars all in a row. The start will be staggard with two cars leaving every 5-10 minutes. Each car will go to either Campus Honda or another starting checkpoint to get their first cards..., then on thier way up the island to the next checkpoints. This is for two reasons, one is to get seperation between the cars so checkpoints won't be overwhelmed with cars (remember that this is thier regular Saturday business day), and to include all Island Honda Dealers in the event as they are all very eager to help out.

Campus has donated to us:
$500.00 cash donation
Some Service gift certificates in the $200.00 range
Some Parts gift certificates in the $200.00 range
Some other assorted goodies as gifts.

Thanks to Campus Honda and all the Island Honda Dealers.
