Trying to install an OEM CD/Cassette deck in a 1999 Toyota Sienna
I’m trying to replace a faulty OEM AM/FM cassette deck with an OEM CD/Cassette deck in a 1999 Toyota Sienna LE.
This is what the cassette deck looks like:
After doing a quick research on harnesses for Siennas on Scosche and Metra it appeared that Toyota uses the same harness for 1987 and up models. So I figured no biggie, I’ll just buy an OEM Toyota radio/CD/Cassette combo deck from http://www.oemautosound.com/pc-19-17...8-to-2002.aspx
This is what the combo deck looks like:
I realized I didn’t do enough research when I removed the cassette deck and discovered that one of the harness plugs didn’t match up with the combo unit.
Here’s a rear view of both decks. The top unit is the cassette deck, the bottom is the combo deck.
The 2-wire plug from the Sienna harness that went to the left 12- pin socket on the cassette deck fit perfectly on the right 12-pin socket of the combo unit, as did both antenna wires. I’m assuming that 2-wire plug is for the radio controls on the steering wheel. The other plug (IIRC has 14 wires) that went to the right socket of the cassette deck didn’t fit the left socket of the combo deck. I went to Fry’s Electronics to physically take a look at the Metra 70-1761 harness, and it didn’t match either of the plugs in the Sienna.
Did a little more googling, and found these 2 harnesses:
Best Kits BHO8113
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=860
Best Kits BHA8110
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=592
I was thinking that I can plug the 14-pin Sienna harness into BHA8110, which is spliced to BHO8113, which will then be plugged into the combo unit. Will splicing the 2 harnesses work? According to pinouts (see attached image) I found on the internet the #20 wire (GND ground to chassis) won’t be used since there isn’t a corresponding wire on the Sienna harness. Should I ground the #20 wire? I don’t want to purchase both of these harnesses only to find that this method won’t work.
Thanks in advance!

your correct in your write up. I might have a extra harness i can send you. As long as you match the radio outputs to the car inputs your fine.

the combo unit you have seems to come from a van with the jbl sound system, the radio should ground when you mount back in the van, post more pics of the combo and the van where the harness leads to.
