relay switch

1 Attachment(s)
Ok another question but this one is a relay type question
The 5901 has aux outputs all of witch are grounds when activated I'm assuming. I want to use one of them to close my aftermatket sunroof via a relay I understand how a relay works so I guess this sounds dumb but I don't want to break anything.on the relay I have the normaly open circuit on one side and the power circuit on the other. the power is the one I need help with the relay is a pilot 40 amp 12volt relay I don't know if this is going to work or if I need something smaller or if i need to connect a smaller power side or what i should do

Re: relay switch

?, [86 or 85] should be 12V+ constant, [hot at all times].

As for 30 and 87, that will depend on how sun roof is switched, ground or power. 94

Why not use a 529T?

Re: relay switch

the sunroof i have already closes when i turn off the ignition unless i push the open button and in the summer when it gets hot i dont want it to be smoldering in the car when i get in after work so i leave the sunroof popped but say for example we get a freak cloud and it starts to pour or something i just want to push the aux button and bam closed window and if i can use a simple relay for it than hey less money out of my pocket.

the relay is 85-86 coil side and 87-30 switch
the switch is to ground so i was thinking maybe just hook the aux wire to the close wire so that it completes the circuit but like i said i dont want to screw anything up and wanted some input from a professional installer (desmond maybe you have the answer to this question)

Re: relay switch

Then I would put the relay on the cars ign. circuit, so ign. turns on for a few sec. and then turns off, roof will close.
#85 and #30 - 12V+ constant, 12V+ free pin on under dash fuse box will work.
#86 - AUX from alarm.
#87 - ign. lead in ign. switch harness.

The AUX output must be programed to disable alarm during use or you will need to disarm and rearm again.

Or the relay needs to be installed on ign. power lead to roof module
#85 and 87 - 12V+ constant, 12V+ free pin will work.
#86 -AUX of alarm.
Cut ign. lead going to roof module connect power end of cut lead to #87a and roof module end of cut lead to #30, that will power up the module for a few sec. and once power is off roof should close, roof will still work the same way with ign. key.

You must cut the ign. feed and isolate the power side so alarm does not see ign. turned on when relay is energized, [turned on] that way you will not have to turn alarm off and on again.

Now if you realy want to "pimp it up" get a rain sensor and use it to trigger the relay, that way you will not have to do anything. 94
