Need advice! (JL Audio W3v3)

Hey all, I need some advice here. I'm looking to install a sound system in my 08 Acura MDX. I already have MB Quart seperates in the fronts, and co-axials in the back (both not yet installed) and am looking to pair them up with a nice sub. I'm biasd to JL audio since i've used them before... years and years ago. Are they still of the same quality? Sound and build? I'm looking at this JL Audio 12" W3v3 in a sealed enclosure. I'm looking to achieve some nice lows. I don't need it to rattle the rear view mirror of the guy parked in front of me but still would like the thumpage. Also, for a SUV , should i be looking for a sealed or a ported enclosure?

Any other recommendations for a sub?

Oh, and i believe that's an older model since the new ones have metal bars as the grill.

The JL Audio 12W3v3 is a great sub. Ported or sealed depends a lot more on what you listen to rather than vehicle type. R&B and rap listners tend to gravitate to ported boxes, more ouput per watt in most cases and offer a big bost in the lower frequencies. Rock, Jazz, Classical, Blues, etc. would most likely sound much more "natural" with a sealed box. Sealed boxes have a much flatter response without the boost around the port tunning frequency ported boxes offer, but also have the ability to play lower frequencies with much higher power handling.

To simplify it, for a box that does everything well.......sealed, if you want raw ouput, ported. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply!

I listen to a wide variety of music. Anything from Roy Orbison to The Game. I'd like to have a nice, clean thump yet achieve the lows when i'm listening to rap/hip-hop music. So i'll be able to get this through a sealed enclosure? If so, is $299 reasonable?
