map light wiring problems, need help
I've referenced this topic on my install.
http://www.hondacivicwagon.com/bb/vi...e+light#p94978 I can't figure out how to correctly wire the map light. The map light comes from a DA and I own an 1987 Civic EE wagon. Currently I have my maplight wired into my oem dome light. However its not working correctly. When my doors are open and my dome light is in the middle position it works. When my doors are closed nothing works, not even the dome light when I put the switch in the 'ON' position. I'm truly stumped here. :/ Any insight or help would be great. |
Re: map light wiring problems, need help
Do you want the map lights to also turn on when you open the doors?
How many wires are there on the map light, what colors? How many positions are on the map light switch(s) and is it one (1) or two (2) switches? What year DA is the map light out of? 94 |

I believe its an earlier year of DA but I'm unsure. I've also seen this maplight in other models. i.e. Accord. |
Re: map light wiring problems, need help
Ground the black lead to cars chassis, any ground point.
The red lead can be connected to the dome light power lead, should be white/blue, [hot at all times] or you can run it to the 12V+ constant free pin on the under dash fuse box. It sounds like you may have the red wired to the dome light power already, but it sound like you have the black ground led connected to the dome light control lead, [ground only if a door is open. 94 |

Also: Thanks for the help. |
Re: map light wiring problems, need help
Reground the map lights black lead directly to cars chassis.
The red power can stay where it is. Your fuse box should have 3-4 "free pins", [male quick release terminals] one is 12V+ constant, there will be a 12V+ park light, [hot when park/head lights are on] it can be used for supplying power to the park light circuit from an alarm, there will be a 12V+ ign., "ign.2". [hot in run] and maybe a 12V+ ign. "ign.1", [hot in run and start] |
Re: map light wiring problems, need help
FCM is right. if i remember correctly doesn't the dome light screw in, in which case that's the actual ground. the other wire should be the door trigger that grounds when the door is open. redo your ground as per FCM and you should be golden
