make my remote start SAFE...
 

im seeing more people posting about accidental remote starts that launch their cars into the side of someone house and im tryin to avoid the same happening to me. i really dont want anyone to get hurt from somethin like this...i could give 2 shits about how much id have to spend fixin everythin, i just couldnt live with myself if some lil kids were to get hurt while playin in the street or somethin. ive heard of a few different features that can be installed to make sure the car wont start if its in gear. I have a Clifford Matrix on my car right now and i wanted to kno what you guys can suggest and roughly how much it would cost.

Its pretty much impossible to "make" a remote start see a manual car. Compustar makes remote starts and alarms specifically for manual cars i believe. This route is much easier. Or teach yourself to not leave the car in gear. I have.

Well theres way of making it SAFER. One use the desiel wait to start wire on the alarm and connect it to the e-brake wire using a relay. It wont let the car start without the e-brake being "up." theres another thing i use but i cant explain it at the momment. Give me a brake its 2:20 in the morning.

you do not need a wait to start just use an aux inhibit wire... like hood pin. It is a waste of money to use a deisel timer for that (unless i misunderstood what you said) If you use the hood pin, it will also show the zone being open if you dont have the ebrake up (if your hoood pin is an inhibit and trigger like audiovox units). That was you will know that the e brake is up. You still have to be careful though, if you only one click the e brake and leave it in gear the car will still jump.

I tested my honda. I put it in gear and gave the e brake a yank and sat in the car. I remote started it and it attempted to start but it did not happen. the car cranked and did not fire. I have an ep and that is how it reacts to being remote started in gear. I still never remote start it if someone has been in my car without me. the thought of running over a kid... well i am sure we all know.

compustar does make units designed for man. trans. the new clifford matrix is supposed to for man. trans as well, but it is about a year late on being released

There is no real way to make a remote start FAIL SAFE!!!
The ones that are designed for manuals work this way:
- place car in neutral
- set park brake
- engage remote start
- exit car..system shuts down.
The car is now ready to remote start

If the car is disturbed ie door opened,alarm triggered,etc -it won't remote start.
Also if you remote start the car...its a one shot deal..you can't restart it by remote.
If you do any damage to property or heaven forbid a person you will become somebody's BITCH!!!!...I can't stress this enough. Get a system that is designed for manual tranny cars.

PS-since DEI aquired clifford the have elimated all manual tranny variants from the lineup...I couldnt get another intellistart from them.

The Vipers/Pythons/Cliffords come with a switch. You're supposed to ground one end and connect the other end to the alarm. It controls whether the system will allow the car to remote start. This in of itself is a stupid idea, but if you use something else in place of the switch... say a magnet switch on the shifter etc, you can make the car somewhat safe.

I think that if you want the convenience of remote start badly enough, you'll also enjoy the convenience of an automatic. I have an auto EG and an EF Si. I love them both equally maybe leaning a little toward the automatic.

The best way, as has been mentioned, is to use a remote start for manual trans, not an option for you unless you want to get a new system, and there are more then a few out there, I however will also recommend a Compustar.

For your system at the very least do what romoracing suggests, use the diesel wait input to keep car from starting unless "E" brake is on, however do not depend on it, we have tested more then a few FWD cars and most will not only start, but will also drag the locked back wheels down the road. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmileo.gif

There are other things that can be done to make it almost fail safe, we used to use a small SPDT micro switch with a long arm, [2"] with a roller on the end and mount it close to the shift linkage rods, line it up with one of the rods, and with shifter in neutral, build up a "bump" under the roller so the only time switch was "off" was if car was out of gear, the rest of the time the switch supplied a ground to hood pin switch wire, and just to be safe we would add a mercury switch to the system that would also supply a ground to the hood pin wire if there was any movement of the car, [jerking forward or backwards] https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif 94

this is how i feel cuz to many people are sittin there scratchin their head cuz they did have the ebrake on and it still launched or whatever it was but thats not enough for me. i think im gonna look into selling my clifford matrix and buying the compustar system....
