Is the dimmer/illumination wire hooked up to the radio??

If it is then disconnect it "should be either orange,orange/white,orange/black on the aftermarket radio harness

I stopped hooking them up unless a customer specifically asked for it because it was causing alot of problem with mainly sony brand radio's

check your ground at the radio harness. did you cut the harness or use a plug??

Two questions... Have you recently put in an HID kit?
Have you done any work on your speakers around the time the problem started?

Well, I've seen a spkr that was grounding out cause this problem. By grounding out, I mean that a terminal on a speaker touching metal where the speaker is mounted. I've also seen a speaker with a voice coil going bad do it also. Are ALL of your speakers playing when you turn your music loud? I want to emphasize playing loud, bc a speaker that is either extremely close to grounding out, or that has a voice coil going bad can sometimes play at lower volumes... I know my idea sounds kind of random, esp since your problem coincides with the light switch, but I don't know if there is much left to trouble shoot at this point...

If the speakers aren't the case, you could always try running power directly to your ignition harness, fusing your constant and switched wires. That would put them on a circuit that has voltage before the headlight circuit, so in theory, turning on your light switch should have zero impact on your radio...

no grounding at the speaker all the wires are good i play the radio loud all the time. (partial def on one side). im going to be replacing my dash harness soon so hopefully that will fix the problem (stereo theft a few years ago).

I don't wanna sound like a downer, but this doesn't sound like a problem that swapping out a harness is going to fix... What year/model is your car? If u have your radio out, this would take u abt 5 mins...

Re: loud pop from speakers???

okay, underneath your steering wheel, from your key cylindar, there will be a bundle of wires. We are looking for the thicker ones. there should be a thick white wire, and a thck white wire with a black stripe. On the back of your radio, you will have a yellow wire, and a red wire. cut those wires, and terminate the ends that go away from your radio. Now, take two wires and run them from under your dash, to behind the radio. hook one of the wires up to the yellow going into your radio, and the other wire to the red going into your radio. put a fuse on these same wires at the end under your steering wheel. The fuses shouldn't be anymore than 10 amps. The wire that you have hooked up to your yellow going into your radio, tap that one into the thick white wire under your steering wheel, and the wire that you have going to the red at your radio should be tapped into your thick white wire with a black stripe. Make sure none of these wires touch any metal at any point! By doing this, you have created a new power circuit to your radio, and the power comes from an area in your car that is before power used to turn on your lights. You already said your ground goes straight to the frame behind the dash, so you should be good to go! Good luck!
