Theft...what is the best defense?
People around me are getting their cars stolen left and right since lately and i feel like its only a matter of time before i become the next victim. The threads in here all preach to get an alarm but we all know that if someone really wants your car they are gonna get it, whether it be somehow disarming the alarm, tow/flatbed or if they are really desperate just taking it from you at gunpoint which at that point an alarm is of no use. The only 2 ways i see that you can have peace of mind is either having insurance or having some sort of tracker. The tracker seems to be the cheaper less stress option since you can get the car back WHEN stolen relatively quickly(and possibly before it becomes a shell). However, i've heard about them being delayed and having weak signals in certain places which would defeat the whole purpose. What do you guys think is the best option and are there trackers that are better than others like the ones that fleet companys use?

A good quality alarm system, properly installed, is your best defence, add to it a GPS tracking system, back-up batt. and a redundant kill switch or two and you will be as safe as you can be.
" They will get it if they want it" is defeatist, anything you do to slow them down will help, even a flat-deck is a problem if the alarms siren is blasting away and the park lights are flashing, if the alarm is a 2way, you will be notified as soon as the alarm goes off, if you have GPS, the car can be tracked.
The alarm is the first line of defence, the crook will always move to the easiest target.
Let me ask you this, how many of the cars that got stolen around you had properly installed alarms? 94
BTW, VRS is a system that allows vehicle recovery from a car jacking.

if an alarm goes off i would say most every crook would flee because they dont want to get noticed and its not worth their time when they can easily go find another, alarm-free car.

The main point is invest in a good alarm system w/ GPS, a bit pricey, but well worth it
