Hissing/static on 1992 factory stereos
Hi, so I have a 1993 Accord EX. The stereo that came with it got a tape stuck in it, so I went to the junk yard and pulled one out a 1992 Accord, the only discernible difference being one less pin where the wire harness goes. That stereo sounded fine until after a certain amount of driving, it would start hissing/popping. This would get worse and worse until it was just too awful to listen to. Once in a while it would do this the moment the car was turned on. I just pulled another factory stereo out of another 1992 Accord and it's doing the same thing! I'd get a 1993 stereo but the junk yard didn't have one either time I went. Any ideas? Thanks.

Use a multimeter, ohm the one pin that isn't being used on the wire harness. I bet it's a ground. This sounds like a classic ground continuity problem. Make usre you battery and alternator grounds are clean and solid to the chassis. Also, in most cases the outter cage of the radio should rear as a good ground.

Sorry for the late response; just wanted to say thanks for the advice. I actually never even mounted the stereo to anything. Just set it in its little hole there under the dashboard.
