Default Controlling rattles in a car with Hasport mounts

I realize that when you get Hasport motor mounts, rattles can't be completely eliminated, but there are some areas that are driving me nuts. I've been reading that Dynamat is mainly for sound insulation from road noise and not the best solution for eliminating rattles. However, I need something that's not too thick. For example, the plastic directly behind the steering wheel rattles, and when I touch it, it stops. There doesn't seem to be much space to apply something on the inside of the plastic. I'd prefer not to go the Home Depot route, because insulation foam not designed for cars can degrade and cause a mess, and I don't want to have to clean it up and re-apply in the future. Can anyone recommend anti-rattle products designed for cars?

You can use sound deadening material on the firewall (inside the cabin). This will help out. Don't use that crap from Home Depot. Buy the right material.

Thanks man, but you misunderstood. I'm trying to stop the plastic rattling inside the cabin. I want to stick something on the opposite side of certain plastic pieces.

Sound deadening materials can be applied to plastic as well. I use it on the plastic trim pieces on the hatch of my GTI.

That's what I thought I could use, but from what I've read, sound deadening material is used to prevent road noise from entering the cabin, not to control rattles.

It can be time consuming, and best done with 2 people, one driving and one locating and marking [rattle] locations, once locater remove trim, place a piece, [only big as needed] on metal body, to keep plastic from rattling against the metal, [or other hard plastic].

I use weather stripping, you can get diff, width and thickness, loose or dense at any hardware stop and it is cheep, 94

Thanks for the reply. Other than weather stripping, what kind of products designed for cars would work? I'm looking for something that will hopefully last longer.

Dynamat makes a number of products that could use be, but costly, I have some Dynamat, in my 94 LS, but all my rattle control, is "fixed" with weather stripping, in over 7 years only one rattle came back and I fixed it, 3 years ago by installing a new piece of weather strip, but the denser one. 94

Just thin dense weather stripping? I'll see if I can find some locally. It doesn't have to be a name brand like Dynamat, by the way. I found this in a search on H-T:

Affordable Auto Sound Deadening Materials | Order Online ? B-Quiet

Is something like that any good?

You can get weather stripping in different thicknesses, widths and densities.

B-quiet is a pretty good product, all the "sound deadening" products out there do a pretty good job, all depend on a proper install/application, most are replaceable by other cheaper products, like weather striping for rattle control. 94

I never knew it was that good. I'll get some weather stripping, thank you for the money saving tip!

I use a no-name brand from Canadian Tire, but it's all pretty much the same. 94
