cd player serial number and code
hi
i have a 2 door honda accord sedan EX v6 2001 model. recentlly my "maintenance reqd" lite showed up and my mechanic said that he needed to disassemble the cd player to check if everything was ok. after he disassembled the cd player and put it back the player wud not work unless i enter some kind of a "code"..guess its the anti theft measure. ...now i dont have the code....i called the dealer and he said that hecan tell me the code and that he will need to disassemble the whole cd player again to get the serial number through which he will give me the code...he wud charge me 25$ an hr which is ridiculous. any ideas where i can get theserial number of cd player or the code. is it mentioned in some of the documents of the car please advise thanks Akash |
Re: cd player serial number and code (ajauhar)
Are you the original owner of the vehicle? The serial number will be on the outer chassis of the radio, but the radio must be removed to read it. Also the fact your "mechanic" was even allowed to touch your stereo system is beyond me, they work on engines not radios and personally I would make him pay for the code since he had no business touching the stereo (especially if he took the stereo apart).

Re: cd player serial number and code (Auex)
First thing you should do is find a new mechanic. Resetting a Maint Req light does not involve taking out the headunit. If you have your manual, the procedure for resetting the light is given.
Secondly, the anti theft code for you HU could be in numerous places. Some dealers provide a card with the code on it. I've also read that it is sometimes located under the fuse panel or under the ash tray. |
Re: cd player serial number and code (ajauhar)
When you originally bought the vehicle, the salesperson should give you together with the spare keys and owners manual a card that has the code number on it. That's for some Acura/Honda vehicles. Also, you can find it on the inside of the glove box lid. They should be 5 numbers.

Re: cd player serial number and code (phatfil)
go to the dealer, bring your registration in there and ask them for the code. And then you should go back to the mechanic and make him pay you for any charges the dealer might have charged you.
PS: thats got to be one of the dumbest mechanic ever. |
Re: cd player serial number and code (nutzurchin)
I have a 96 Accord LX not the original owner. I had to get a new battery today and of coarse I don't have the code for it https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif
I seen some people here said they could get codes. If you can help me give me a shout. Thanks |
the code ajauhar found isnt put there by the factory. it was placed there by the tech who did the pre delivery inspection on it. the sticker may not even have been installed on your car and can be in numerous places as there is no standard place to put it. it is up to the tech. try the ashtray, open the glove box and look on the sides, inside of fuel door, bottom of fuse panel lid, etc.

oh yeah maintanence required means an oil change is due by the way.

Re: cd player serial number and code (phatfil)
Ok, i e-mailed the local Honda dealer with the #'s on the top of the radio and they responded with my code. No need to pay anybody $ for it. I was just trying to get a faster response that the few days it would take the dealer to respond.

Re: cd player serial number and code
Same thing here...new battery...and no memory of where my code is...
i have a 99 V6 accord...any ideas where the 5 digit code could be posted? i have looked under the coin tray on the left side of the steering wheel... any guidance appreciated. thanks Sandeep |
i had a similar problem
my friend has a newer integra than mine so he had a cd player and all i had was a tape deck in mine. He recently had a system put in so he gave me his old cd deck. I took it to get it installed and i was told the theft like might come on. it does it every time power is disconnected, like when you install a new battery. So i got my friends VIN# and the serial# off of the deck. I called the local acura dealership and they gave me the code. Ive heard stories of people getting hassled by the dealership thinking it was stolen and had to come up with solid evidence that they owned it legally. But there should really be no problem if all you have is the serial# off the radio. But that will be necessary to get the code seeing as all the radios are different. Good luck |
Re: (foolintherain617)
Thank you. unfortunately the serial number of the deck is on the deck and inaccessible.
|
you should be able to get somebody to get it for you for $20. Sounds like the best way to get it at this point. Dont know how much you paid for the unit but they go for as much as $100 bucks on eBay used.
