amp problem
 

having a problem with my sub amp, its a 250/1 jl audio mono block amp, running two 10" jl w0's.. had it for about a year and has always ran fine until the other night, it just stopped, its still getting power, but wont run the subs, according to the owners manual, the speaker load is too low for what the amp can handle and its going into some type of protection mode..


so anyway i decided to re wire my subs, and got the same thing, then i ran dif subs off of it and still the same thing, so then i just disonnected all speakers from the amp, and still when the amp turns on it goes into the same mode??

any ideas????

are your subs dual voice coil?

check wirings, like ground and $hit, umm check fuses for sure...

im pretty sure its a loose wire or something blew(fuse)

cuz if it worked before, than it shouldn't be the ohm load...

how'd you wire up the 2 subs?

If it's not working regardless of which subs are connected, and you're getting power from the battery, and it turns on and off with the deck, then it's definitely not a wiring issue.

Not what you want to hear, I'm sure, but sounds to me like the amp is shot. Might start looking for a repair facility for JL or find a new amp.

i was thinking the amp could be blown as well..

not really what i wanted to hear right now tho, but yeah amp will turn on and everything, the speakers are only svc, and also it kept blowing fuses every time id put a new one in. and the speakers are wired in a series..

i just pulled the amp out the other day and want to take it somewhere to get it checked out, if i take it to a local JL dealer do u guys think theyd be able to possibly repair it???

and if not, can you guys reccomend another amp... kind of short on money right now, and i really liked the JL, would u guys advise to buy another, or is there something out there better for less money??

alright, i got a list of things to check, so im gonna go see what i can find..

i really hope its something simple, and when u say faulty fuse, the fuses in the dist. block right before my amp has the glass barel ones in... whats a better fuse to run?

What could be wrong is the fuse your using. More power means better fuse you need to use. It also sounds like one of your wire is touching causing the fuse to constantly blow. Try this, disconnect your remote wire from the deck. Connect the remote wire from the amp to the power wire of the amp. Recheck your ground wire making sure they are not touching any positives. Connect your speaker wire into the amp and speaker. That should be a good way to check your amp. If fuse still blows try a stronger fuse like 35. Do not bump it yet because the more power your amp tries to push through your power wire the higher of a fuse you needs on fuse holder or it will blow. Just check to see if it has sound. If it does have sound, one your remote wire has problems or two you just need a stronger fuse. Try using a 2-4 gauge power wire that works pretty good. Trust me I had this pushing a jl w6 AV edition and eclipse 12 inch. You could hear my car from two blocks away. It was hard to breath in my car once i bumped. he said amp turns on but its in "protection" mode.

I'm pretty sure its just some loose wirings or wirings touching something they not suppose to, its nothing big, dont sweat...

ok well this is what happened..

went out and re placed all the wires going into and coming from the amp... power, ground, remote, rca's, and speaker wire..

since i blew all my other fuses i grapped a bigger 80 amp i had sitting around and wired it up with that, as soon as i wired that up i heard a sizzle sound and smoke poured out from the amp...

so let me guess, i just blew it for sure??

can someone tell me what went wrong??

and tukap1 i guess i will be needing a new amp

also i just found out the local audio store i go to has a used 250/1 for sale, in a few mins im going in to see what they want for it.. if its cheap enough i might just go with that.

what about the 500/1 it can be picked up on ebay for fairly cheap? and i have a 12" w4-4 in my room along with 2 12" cv xl12d's that i want to experiment with a little.. so which would give me room to improve if i decide to do that??

i had the 2 cv's running off the 250 before and it sounded pretty good, but i think it could be better with more power.. not sure about the w4

any ideas?

i do like the 10's tho great for sq, couldnt care less about spl really in the civic.. but it was an awesome mix with them and my mb quart mids..

if it's a JL amp, power it down, no subs attached. they have a reset for their voltage rails (the power down). If that doesn't work...you might have let the magic smoke out of the amp https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif.
