2004 Accord: Whining noise from stock radio?
 

The radio in my 2004 Honda Accord EX outputs a constant high-pitched "whining" noise. The noise stays the same volume and tone, even if I turn up the radio or change stations. I hear a slight blip in the noise when I switch from radio to CD. The noise is constant throughout all the speakers in the car.

If your car has a factory amplifier then it's probably taking a dump.

You can try improving the ground to your stereo and see if that helps.

It could also be a bad battery (even though it starts your car fine, it isn't filtering out the ripple from the alternator) or bad spark plug wires. Actually your car is distributerless so an Ignition problem is not likely.

Is there a way to tell whether it's the factory amplifier, or whether it's a grounding problem?

I don't know much about amplifiers (or radios in general https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif ). Is the amp built into the (expensive) radio unit?

more then likely the factory radio is taking a dump. You can try to reground it but I doubt that will help.

yea it looks like ebay for a stocker or a j yard. I would just switch it out for a aftermarket unit. It will sound better then a stock unit.

So I bought a replacement 6-disk unit (stock Honda), and the exact same noise is still there! Based on a guess that two units couldn't be defective in exactly the same way, I'm assuming that something else is wrong. Is there any way to test for other problems (grounding/battery issues)? :-)
