SHG has another - JDM DC2R- Project/Restoration/Build
So where do I even begin....
-This project has been in the works for some time now and it has been a long hard road to get this far. Ive had help along the way from a number of close friends and great people. I want to start out by saying that I have a wonderful girlfriend, amazing friends, excellent industry contacts and suppliers. It could NOT be possible with out the love, help, and support from everyone I hold dear to me. Seriously, thank you all.-
Some of you may remember this car being for sale a little over a year and a half ago in upstate NY. It is a late 1995 production, 96 spec Integra Type R. Imported originally to the US by Soho Imports of FL. Purchased by a now friend of mine Tommy. The car was absolutely gorgeous upon arrival to the United States, extremely low mileage 36K Kilometers (roughly 25k miles?), flawless paint, flawless interior, one of the most prime examples of an imported DC2 that i have seen of this age in the US. Now if some of you have seen better, as I am sure they exist, please refrain from telling me in a negative way. Essentially the car was perfect and gorgeous.
Until one night, a week after Tommy had taken possession of the car, it was struck by an oncoming car at a glancing blow, Sending Tommy and his 2 passengers spinning off the road. The car that hit then was a red Altima coupe. The driver of the Altima had reportedly suffered diabetic shock and passed out at the wheel, hitting the only oncoming car for miles around. The Type R suffered greatly, but luckily Tommy and his 2 passengers were alright. The car sat for a couple of weeks while he wrapped his head around the accident and he decided to sell the remains to someone willing to take it on as a restoration.
I saw the car posted on a number of forums and immediately started making arrangements to look at and purchase the car. Going off only the pictures from the for sale thread i headed over to see what i hoped would be my only chance to own a true JDM Type R.

When I saw these pictures i didn't know what to expect when I was first putting it all together in my head. "Is this too much of a project?""What am I doing?""JUST BUY IT DAMNIT!" Needless to say i fell in love with the poor girl when I first laid eyes on her. What a truly moving sight when I rolled up and tears almost came to my eyes. My girlfriend Brittany grabbed my arm as she knew what I was feeling and said, "Babe, thats your car, I know you'll save it, lets take it home".
Anyhow, I went back and forth with Tom and bit and talked cars. I assured him it would not be massacred for parts or be made anything less than perfect again. We settled on a price and I gave him a deposit. The following day I returned with a truck and trailer and brought her to her new home. This is from the first day. Don't mind me giddy mug, as i could not help but be smiling.
Safe and sound at home!
Well fast forward about a year and a half of saving and scraping together parts, moving out of state, starting a new job, struggling and breaking through the bad times to this point. I have many more things to show and share. I hope that was enough of an introduction to keep you checking back in. Thanks!

You don't need to post that, just to subscribe to a thread anymore (actually you haven't needed to for years, but all the same).
This looks to be quite the project. But, given the reputation of the SHG crew... it shouldn't be too long before the car starts to look like something that Honda would be proud of.

It was pretty hard to stomach when i first saw it in person. I seriously felt bad like it was a person or animal.

If you've ever driven a car that experienced that kind of frame damage and then repaired compared to how it was originally you'd understand my statement. Like I said, I have faith you can complete it... with the right amount of money, time, and skill. Take my statement whichever way you want, I'm just some guy on the internet.

I experience it daily, as well as my customers when they are on track. Racecars are hit and repaired constantly. I have also worked for a a couple of body shops over the years that did heavy hits and large sectioning utilizing celette frame jigs etc. It is common practice. When a car is repaired improperly, I would say i agree with you. Fortunately for me, I have access to legitimate repair facilities that we use regularly at work. I appreciate your input of course, this is a public forum after all!

Damn man, looks like you got quite the work cut out for you as well, good luck with the repair, definitely way more extreme than my eg. Poor type r got crunched bad.

yah the damage is extensive, but it takes a different kind of bravery to tackle rust. I have been fighting rust my whole life in the northeast and i can't honestly say id rather deal with this haha. GL man!
