Re: New to HT - My EJ2
Radio came in today. I made a few extension lines for a glove box mount. Mocked it up and tried to test... Battery is dead. I have not been as good about starting it every few days. I'll be installing gauges in the stock single din location
Installed the antennea block off. This is a replacement for the other I lost. That came in today as well.
things ordered that haven't been delivered:
lip spoon rep
4 6.5 Crunch slim mount speakers + wire to install
Skate board tape for pedals
white derlin shift **** spherical style
after i install all this junk I'm buying a engine stand. I've been dragging my feet due to my wishy washy indecisiveness on a engine setup. If money wasn't a factor I would be going b20v with a b16 trans. But... I have other hobbies and wants not to mention needs!
after a lot of over thinking... It'll stay a D series.
Things I know I need:
SI tranny
clutch and flywheel
non b8 injectors
y8 im
rebuild or swap will go in 1/2 directions
1) rebuild b8 mini me.
2) D15b7 build with a port polish and cam
im researching as much as I can find. Most threads are pretty old for either. Goal of 130whp, but I'll settle for 120
i wouldn't mind rebuilding my shortblock for the experience. But if I can score a b7 that runs smoothly I'll take it.either way I'll fresh it up a little so want a engine stand.

Re: New to HT - My EJ2
$50 radio set up installed. Sounds awesome. Consists of a Dual Bluetooth Deck ($20) 2 x crunch 6.5 speakers ($17 pair). Re wired since my harness was cut. I couldn’t find a harness at U-pull. Left about 20” lead on everything I extended and ran it into the glovebox. I’ll be installing a few gauges on the console (oil, water, wideband when I get one)
Lip installed also. Turns out I ordered the Mugen Rep. it looks good to me : ) took some massaging but fit. Makes the sides look “taller”. But I’ll focus on that after she’s driving.
still Waitjng on the shift **** and skateboard tape for the pedals.
i found a lead on a d15b7 Head with a d16y8 intake manifold and TB for $40. I’m goin to take a look at it today. If I go this route I’ll be going with a DIY Port and Polish + Delta Cam regrind.

$20 Deck. No CD, just aux usb and Bluetooth. Put out plenty of power for the speakers. Runs a 12v stand by. So... had to hook up The constant and standby to 12v source which ended up NOT BEING the white/blue line (3v)... it was the red/yellow. Always use a meter folks.
Cheap speakers sound pretty damn good.
Lip installed. It’s great for the price.
“Tucked radio”. Also need to paint the ashtray... gauges will fill the void in the dash.

Re: New to HT - My EJ2
Apparently most vehicles stolen per day in 2017... maybe per capita. Idk. I’m not boasting. Honestly I would be pretty much done with the Honda scene if this thing ends up stolen. I’ve alreay had people try to trade rape me for my rims and tires for stocks on snow tires. Not that I would go for such a deal. But it’s the caliber of people in certain aspects of the community.
add that to knowing these don’t take much beyond a screwdriver to be taken... plus the kill switch would make me feel like Biff lol

Re: New to HT - My EJ2
Decided to get a head for a mini me swap. Picked up a d16y8 head. Overplayed a little, bit cane with receipts for “fresh” valve job.
ive been thinking about sourcing a long block, but everything is going to be beat and or 20 years old. Since this bottom end is running I can assume the crank is good atleast. This engine either has bad rings/valve stems or both. It’ll get a rering for sure at the minimum. Kits are fairly inexpensive.
Any advice?

Re: New to HT - My EJ2
Major progress coming soon. Found a deal I'm looking to pickup tomorrow. Spoiler alert, no more d16y8.
Other aspects have been put on hold:
Windshield will need done as soon as possible.
im going to need bolt ons (Catback and Intake, have a DC header already) but those are not necessary to make it run.
searching for an SI/EX Trans
and im gonna need to chip my p06 ecu.
Ill be be picking up fresh hoses and a clutch before installing

Re: New to HT - My EJ2
Can't wait myself! Still need trans, clutch, hoses and to chip ecu. Also need the Vtec subharness. Seen one for about $30 on eBay Trans will likely come from same source. Clutch I can't decide on...Hoses may be auto zone replacements. Or cheap silicone onesEcu I'll chip if I can't find that p28 anymore. I'll be sure to find surprises along the way lolI'm almost about to pull the engine; but if have everything I'll need I can swap back in same day! So I'm trying to be patient and not rush into tear down

Re: New to HT - My EJ2
This is the engine I picked up.
Dude is a garage builder. Looks like he did a good job. Better than I would have AND it’s already done.
-I have the hoses on order, to be delivered tomorrow
-Vtec harness with plugs and pins to be delivered next week also
-plugs will be NGK, wires Duralast
- Clutch maybe Duralast for lifetime warranty
-Si Trans sourced by the engine builder
-I’ll be chipping the po6 myself, engine builder can burn me a base chip
ill have everything ready to go before I start to remove anything. One day swap is the goal.

Re: New to HT - My EJ2
New hoses. Which don’t smell like anything by the way.... 5 layers if you count the gloss blue and internal light blue layers. I think they’ll work just fine
Old hoses are swollen and soft. You can see multiple clamp marks. I’m sure they’re just about toast.
They’re gonna look sweet IMO. As long as they fit right up, which they look to, I’m happy.

Sub-harness came in also. Looks good. Each pin is labeled. I’ll test it with a meter for kicks and peace of mind.
Also picked up a set of Duralast Spark Plug wires. I’ll be going with NGK Plugs. But didn’t pick them up today to break the expenses at Autozone into a low as possible, but above $20 to get the credit points. I’m at 3 Of 5. Next purchase will be break in Oil + Filter and thread locker, after that coolant, MTF, spark plugs.
