You got a long way to go on this teggy but it seems like you have all the resources to make it nice. Stuff changes when major life events like marriage come into play so you better finish this build first, Its tough to explain a 3k paint job to a girl that wants a 10k minimum wedding lol.

No real updates with the car yet, just a pile of parts that keeps getting bigger and bigger. Still a year out from the wedding, but we've been knocking **** out for that, so I've had no spare time the past month.

So basically, the car has been burning an absurd amount of oil recently, like a quart a week. That prompted me to perform a compression test, yielding the results pictured above. The plug for cylinder for was all caked up with ****, and the other three looked fine. Cylinders 1-3 tested just fine, then cylinder came along with 120 psi. Performed a leakdown test in all four cylinders and only found a 5% loss across the board, which is within spec according to the FSM. So I'm at a loss. Tomorrow I'll be calling a friend that has worked for Acura for 15+ and see what he has to say about it.

How is 210 down to 120 a 5% loss? That’s like a 40% loss in my book
Oh you’re talking about the leakdown. Those compression results prove you need rings or valve seals for that cylinder though. Can’t have numbers that far off

Yea, the 5% was the loss during the leak down test. I'm not really sure where to start, aside from pulling the head and inspecting everything. I've never had a cylinder fail the compression test and pass the leak down.

my motor did that a long time ago, it was a broken ring. did you put any oil in that spark plug tube and then re-run the compression test? if it jumps up, that's a busted ring most likely. my car sounded like a subaru when it did that as well, but i think the compression was even lower. it was something like 210 +/- and then all the way down to 60-80 if i recall.

at that point, i had the whole motor re-done. I knew jack about cars back then, i honestly couldnt tell you what all they did lol. i wish i still had the receipts. for what it cost back then, i imagine it was re=ringing all cylinders, clean the block, probably a light hone and then reassembly.

Damn that sucks. I'm pretty sure my Miata had similar damage. Cylinder 1 spark plug would fowl from all the oil burning in there. Went through a quart a week easy, never opened it up to find out though. Sold it to a kid down the street, and stressed like 10 times to always check the oil, and then he blew it up in like 30 days because he let it run out lol.
