Default DSM Build (Let the Crankwalk jokes commence!)

Some of the DA guys and I guess you could say fans of my DB2 build have been asking me if I was going to start a build for my new car. Didn't want to at first since this is mainly a Honda site but then again, we'll all enthusiasts right?
Now I'm sure I'll get some hate but whatever. I bought this thing because I always thought these cars were cool, I've never owned a turbo car and AWD is a **** load of fun.

I bought the car locally about a month ago, it's a 96 Talon TSI AWD with the factory rear LSD (rare apparently). Car was 100% bone stock, in pretty decent shape apart from the cracked bumper and bad alternator (yea, I found that out on the 2nd day of ownership when it died on my way to work ). It's lowered on something but I couldn't tell you what, springs are far too rusted to make out anything and the shocks are Gab Sports.
Anyway here's some pictures when I first got it.

So of course I can't leave well enough alone so I went out and bought an intake kit for the car. Now I can hear my turbo spooling up and frighten small children with my CBV.

Next I wanted to transfer the Prosport gauges from my DA over to the Talon. I ordered a vent gauge pod, triple pillar pod and gauge cluster bezel pod. I'm still waiting on my Water Temp and EGT to come in.

I also bought an Evo 3 Oil Filter Housing so I can do an air cooled remote oil cooler. Plan to have a temp sender in the return line, all SS AN lines, should be pretty trick.

I also picked up an Eclipse bumper to replace my cracked Talon one. Just need some headlights and then it will be mounted.

A friend of mine is doing the tiny bit of bondo work and painting it for me.

Next thing I bought was an SSAC short route intercooler kit. This thing has received great reviews on DSMTuners, it's been pressure tested to 60psi for an hour with no issues and there's people pushing 500+ HP though them so I figured why not.

I got sick of looking at my crappy flaking paint on my stock wheels so one Sunday, I put it up on jack stands and grabbed my flat black rattle can, this is the result.

I also started to pick up parts for a 3" turbo back. Waste gate dump, 3" down pipe, 3" Vibrant Flat Black muffler.

My last little thing for now. I wasn't expecting to do a turbo upgrade this year but my buddy had it for sale so I said **** it. 14B with a 7cm^2 housing plus port work.

That's it for pictures now.
I'm currently ordering all the parts to install my FMIC and 14B (new coolant over flow can, dual catch cans, lines, some more exhaust parts, gaskets, etc).
Goal is to dip into the high 13s with this set up on 15psi.

Nice. Whats the long term plans for the car? I'm a big dsm fan myself. I am currently fulfilling my honda and dsm loves right now. No money blows though.

haha, just messin with ya since i saw your title anthony. i had to do it! lol. but im not a complete hater of dsm's. they are, however, what actually got me into cars in the first place. wouldn't mind having a first gen awd myself, but they're just so damn unreliable. they'll run GREAT when they feel like it, but if they dont feel like it, forget it.

and looks like you're not wasting any time with this one. i love the gauge bezel where the air vents used to be. and the vibrant muffler is ****!

keep it up man, cant wait to see more!

Long term? Garage queen, 9 second slips, nasty turbo, dog box and still 100% streetable with AC and PS. Ah, what a dream lol.

I think the 1Gs are worse then the 2Gs. Do a little reading and crankwalk isn't as bad as it's made out to be. Plus the 2G trans is stronger, 4 bolt rear, etc etc etc. I've had a couple issues but come on it's 13yrs old so....

I might get rid of the Vibrant muffler and just get a full Megan Racing exhaust, all stainless steel ftw!

I looked at a couple haggarded ones before buying this one. It's got a bit of rust but I rather that then totally half assed mods.

I decided to ditch the Vibrant muffler. Order a Megan Racing Cat Back exhaust, should be here next week or the week after. Full 3" turbo back, all stainless steel, w00t!! Can't wait for that.

On a **** off note, my friend who is porting my turbo manifold called me today. The crack it the manifold is unrepairable so there's $20 gone. Decided I'm going to go with an aftermarket manifold.

Here's the shopping list to get the new turbo in:
Forced Performance manifold
JMF Heat Shield
JMF Deluxe Catch Cans (x2)
Samco Hoses
Aluminum Rad
Slim Fans (x3)
DEI Heat Wrap
J Pipe
2” to 2.5” 90* silicone coupler
STM Oil Cooler Kit
AN Fittings For Temp Sender

Also going to do front pads, wheel bearings all around and ball joints. Fun times!

Very nice. Seems like you got a good start on the parts you are ordering. Also gonna need a walbro 190 or 255 fuel pump here soon. And if you go with the 255 you will need an AFPR as well. And don't forget a nice BOV, those crappy plastic 2g ones blow *****! At least snag a 1g metal one for cheap, or buy my authentic Greddy Type R one for $125

I'll likely address all the fuel **** at once. New pump, lines, injectors, AFPR, filter, rail, etc. I doubt I'll do that till next year though.

Alright, time for an update.

First off, my Pro Sport Water Temp gauge came in. Then I realized that my dumb *** ordered the wrong freaking version (Performance so no warning or peak/hold features) *****! So I'm seeing if there's any thing I can do.

Got my turbo timer installed. The ash tray made a perfect hiding spot, especially because I'm trying to quit smoking again.
Now you see it.

Now you don't.

Made and mounted a little mini shift light.

Cleaned up and painted my 1G CBV/BOV.

Lastly, traded some parts to get some Bosch AL Gen 2 ballasts and D2S bulbs for my HID retro to go with the Eclipse front.

Yup 3" cat back. I have the down pipe to but I need a high flow cat welded in a wide band bung.

More pictures of the Cat Back!

Under the car, it hangs low but I've only hit it twice and that was because I went too quick over a speed bump, so now I know I have to go slow lol. You can also see the reducer where it goes into the stock cat. There's another adapter which let's it bolt to a 3" down pipe (coming soon).

I took a video of the exhaust. Ignore the smoke, car was cold and there was some water in it from the rain last night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jslQ4Ray_vc

Next up is my Waste gate dump, this thing will be nasty with the new turbo.

Because of where the piping routes on my Intercooler kit, I had to buy a new Coolant can. It's a piece made by JM Fabrications with a sight tube and drain ****.

Lastly, the J pipe for my 14B showed up. Needs to be cleaned up/polished before going on.

Pretty much ready for the new turbo almost. I still need the following:
Catch Cans
90* Silicone coupler/adapter
Add a cat to my down pipe
New Turbo to manifold bolts
Oil Lines
Oil Cooler

That's it.

nice dump tube. We had to route the dump back into the down pipe as it was WAY too loud for the cops to stand. But even with a 3.5" cat back we made for it it still sounds bad ***!

We just finished installing a aeromotive FPR on it, cant wait till we get a exhaust stud that broken off removed and a new one in place. The FPR looks pretty sexy with the braided line and -6AN fittings too.

/thread jack haha
