averyvm's EG buid - Stock LS Turbo
What up people,
I had this car for a while now but I havent been doing a good job of documenting its progress. So I figured I start a new thread that showcases my car.
I got the car when I was 16 for 500 dollars running. I gotta thank my dad for the negotiation skills. Any ways alot of things have happened since then. Here are the specs
Stock LS with a turbonetics journal bearing turbo. Not sure of the inducer and exducer measurements but it seams to be a good fit. Here are the details of the setup.
Engine
Stock B18A1 from throttle body to oil pan. I pulled this engine from the junkyard and rebuilt it with new piston rings, bearings and seals. I did this back in high school about 7 years ago and its still running strong so I must have done something right.
Turbo System
turbonetics turbo
BLOX cast manifold
XS Power ebay wastegate
Ebay Intercooler
Ebay charge piping, couplers and clamps.
Ebay Downpipe.
Fuel, Fuel Management and Tuning
Neptune RTP
Innovate MTX-L
Autometer mechanical boost gauge (Leaks like hell, never shows a good reading)
DSM 450 injectors w/ Resistor Box out of an accord from the junk yard
Stock fuel pump, fuel rail, and fuel pressure regulator.
Suspension
I used to have H&R Race springs, ended up going back to stock springs.
stock shocks
Energy suspension poly-eurothane bushings in front upper and lower control arms.
Energy suspension poly-eurothane bushings in rear lower control arm
bwr front and rear camber kit. The BWR front camber kit was garbage. I would not recommend putting these on your car. Ended up going back to stock upper control arms.
Wheels
15X6.5 Rota GT-3
kumho ecsta ast 195 50r15
Brakes
Rear Disc swap conversion from a DC integra.
stock front civic brakes
Interior
LS cloth seats
Power window conversion

Re: averyvm's EG buid - Stock LS Turbo
Unfortunately I had to remove my turbo and put a "stock" exhaust back on in efforts to pass emissions here in Cleveland Ohio. Instead of buying an exhaust or taking my car to the exhaust shop I wanted to build/weld my own exhaust. This process took a lot longer than I expected.
Muffler shops have lifts, I dont.
Muffler shops do the welding while the pipe is on the car, I dont.
These two things alone cause for this job to take an extremely long time. But its all good.
this was my first attempt at making my own exhaust. I bought most of the bends, the muffler and the catalytic converter from Summit Racing. I also got a couple bends and straight sections from O'Reillys. They surprised me with the number exhaust stuff that they had.
Im still working on this project and looking back I probably should have just taken the car to the exhaust shop for them to do it. But I'm really glad that I gained some welding experience. When I put my turbo back on I want to make my own downpipe and dumptube.
Enough rambling here's some pics. bump.
Turbo coming off. You can see a big hole in the hose thats connected to the wastegate. SMH
First but weld ever.

Re: averyvm's EG buid - Stock LS Turbo
So..... I'm tired of not having A/C. For that reason I am converting my system from R12 to R134a. Its a pain, but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.
Here's I side by side comparison of the r12 system on the left and the r134a on the right.
I noticed that the r134a system had larger diameter lines. Since r134a doesn't cool as effectively as r12 does it makes sense to have larger lines to compensate for the lack of cooling.
I just finished building this workbench the day before and already got plenty crap on it.

After getting the whole a/c system swapped over and charged the compressor clutch wasn't engaging. This was very fustrating especially after spending hours installing the new lines and the evaporator and what not. Eventually I got it working and this wire was to blame.
I eventually got it working and its blowing pretty cold. I'm glad that I got it all working.

Right. I don't have the turbo on right now. I had to take it off for Emissions Check. But it will be going back on shortly. Hopefully I can maintain A/C.

Re: averyvm's EG buid - Stock LS Turbo
Lately I've been getting the feeling that my car is falling apart and mostly because of the way the car drives. After doing a little bit of pushing and pulling on wheel I notice that there was too much play. I need a new wheel bearing. I had my mind set on doing this myself and without a press. Here are some pictures.

Nice job on doing the wheel bearings yourself. Its a pain in the *** to get that sleeved collar off of the hub. I had to carefully cut mine off after knocking the hub out of the bearing with a B.F.H. lol. I ended up taking mine to an alignment shop to have the new bearing pressed in for $10. When I showed up with the hub, knuckle, and bearing all apart the guy was like "how the hell did you get that apart." I just laughed and flexed my biceps haha.
I'm liking your hatch dude. You need to get that turbo back on asap!!

Re: averyvm's EG buid - Stock LS Turbo
Thanks for the kind words guys and yea I can't wait to get that turbo back on.
I got super lucky when buying the car. I bought it back in '05 and my dad definitely helped with the negotiation.
