I Emailed Skunk 2 themselves, and this was the responce i got back about S2 stg 2 tuner series cams...

Thank you for contacting the Helpdesk at Skunk2 Racing.

I would like to see a minimum of 11:1 compression for those Tuner Stage 2's to make optimum horsepower. If you are a bit less than 11:1 you will still make much better power when compared to factory camshafts, however there will certainly be more power to be made by raising compression. The more compression you can throw at it the better. I like to see about 12:1 for a daily driver on 91 octane fuel or greater.

If you have any more questions regarding Skunk2 products or policy please let us know.

My concern would be that the stock piston valve reliefs don't have enough depth to clear the amount of lift from those cams. You'll end up kissing the valves and bending them. Upgrade those pistons to an ITR spec.

I've heard one time of someone running them but don't know if it was on modified valve reliefs. Check the stock block thread, I'm pretty sure that were i saw it.

When I had my old stock bottom end b20v build I was looking into cams, and everywhere I read it said don't go any bigger than ITR cams unless you modify the valve reliefs.

Since you wish you did it a different way, do you mind if I ask you what you would recommend. I can get a complete 96-97 spec ITR B18C swap w/ the LSD of course for about $3500 plus maybe $200 for shipping. Figure $4000 installed, "OR" should I get a boneyard B20 and have new RS machine pistons and shotpeen the rods or get eagles and a GSR head and put the best bang for the buck cams in it and a skunk pro 2 intake and an S300 tune w/ a B16 trans w/ an LSD. Or should I leave the block stock, have the head ported/polished/milled and cam /spring/retainers and hytec replica it and call it a day!! hope your not confused.
Basically, what can I get out of a B20 vtec set up for around 4 grand

you can get a decent motor for 4grand, it depends what you wanna do ... do you want to buy a motor out of a unknown car, with unknown miles and abuse for 4grand? or do you want a brand new motor for 4grand, fresh everything for that much money?

Sorry not true sir

My buildlist
B20 block
.08 milled from the deck
.20over on the bore
Arp rod bolts/Arp studs
rods were shotpened
crank was knifeedged, micropolished, balanced.
New rings/bearings/.20over PF3 pistons
Cometic Head Gasket Honda B18A/B,20 84.5mm .051"
I think I measured .28 or .38(these numbers could have been .028 or .038 don't remember at the moment) from the top of the piston at tdc to deck before the head went on back in oct of last year.

P72 head
Skunk2 Dual Titanium valve springs & Retainers
Skunk2 Pro 1+ cams
Skunk2 Cam gears
OEM valves & guides
Skunk2 Intake Manifold(stock GSR throttlebody soon to be replaced with a 68mm professional products one)

I am going to throw my opinion in along with 00Red_Sir. It is my opinion that anything larger than an ITR cam would require deeper valve pockets than the factory B20 pistons have in order for the valves to clear.

Ive personally seen stage 2 cams smack the pistons as soon as vtec engaged on a stock b20 bottom end with vtec head.
ITR or stage 1 is about as far as you can go.

Have you clayed your setup? Have you pulled your head to verify you aren't tapping? I have. Here's some pics.
