valve train question -mixed cam caps with pics
my valve train is loud and i have just set the valve lash and started it up and it still loud . i pulled the vc and started the car and i have a stream of oil spraying from around a bolt that holds down the cam cap could i have mixed them up and the valve train was quieter with out the vc .i set the valves cold and the specs are .006 intake and .007 exhaust this is a ls vtec motor with -4 feed to the head any help would be great .

Your question isn't real clear. The cam caps number from 1 to 5, lower numbers with the arrows pointing in the direction of the timing belt. If they are not installed that way fix it quickly. The oil rails don't matter they can be installed on either side.
From the looks of those oil rails it appears you have a first gen b16a head and I'd be willing to bet those 15 year old lost motion assemblies are due to be replaced and could be the source of your valvetrain noise.
Also did you properly install the dowel with a NEW o-ring under the #3 cap. This is VERY important.

The cam caps are numbered and have arrows that point towards the timing belt side of the motor. I can't tell from your pics if you have them right.

sorry for the confusion the cam cams are correct but i didnt know on the oil rails and the valve train is louder with the vc on than off with it off it sounds good there is a new oring on the 3rd cam cap but can you explain the dowl there is2 dowls on each oil rail thanks for the help so far

If you left out the dowel then you need to take it apart and put one in before running the engine again.

ok theres dowl pins on the out side of the cam cap and a o ring in the center but no dowl what does the dowl do ? im going to order the dowl in the morning thanks for the part number b19coupe
