Default two engines: back block, good rotating assembly. Good block, bad rotating assembly.... should I

Here's the deal.

I have a jdm d15b with a broken headbolt in the block, the block is toast.

I also have a vx block, that I took apart for fun. But the crank is still in it.

The blocks are identical to each other. I am tossing around the idea of putting the jdm d15b internals in the d15z1 block. I technically have all the parts to do it, except a headgasket. Except I've never done any of this. And I have the money available to purchase a d15b.

I have a buyer that's willing to pay 200 for the cylinder head, but I am thinking that I if just got some new main and rod bearings, that I could technically do it.

Hmm.. Should I do it?

I have an engine stand, torque wrenches, loctite, micrometers, a service manual..pretty much every toold that I would need to do it. Except for a piston ring compressor (no biggie here)

I can get ACL bearings for 70 shipped from http://www.autohausaz.com
and a headgasket for 20 bucks.

Ive seen your transmission write ups. You have the mental capacity for it, and it would be a great learning experience while not breaking the bank. I dont see a downside to rebuilding the block.

next question, If I were to get some 01-05 civic gx pistons, it would bump it up to 10.8:1 from the 9.3:1cr. It would cost me $220 to get those pistons + rings.

But that wouldn't that require a custom tune? Damn. But it would be a nice jump in cr

It would be a peppy little motor with alot of dynamic compression if you kept it on the stock cam, requiring 91 octane. I dont know that youd hurt anything by not getting it tuned, but obviously you should if you hear it detonating, and it would be a good idea to take a look at your spark plugs once and while for evidance of a lean condition or damage. you wouldnt realize max power potential without a custom tune of course.

Hm. Would it require custom tuning...
