you can rent a good valve spring compressor tool from a Napa. if youre doing valve guides you need a way to heat the head. as far as specialty goes, that about it. even just taking the valve springs out, if you push down the top of the retainer with about a 17mm socket, theyll pop off. oh and get a magnet for when you drop those little guys down in the head. thats all i can think of right now.

im sure some smart *** will post a picture of a gigantic seat cutter.

if you have a spare head go right ahead but if you don't good luck.but just think about it if it was that easy i think portflow, cccylinderhead, cncport etc.. will be out of business just my opinion

oh, i thought this guy needed help dis. and ***. his head before and after machine shop trips, not trying to build a machine shop in his room.

to the OP, there is machinery involved that is astronomical in price, relatively speaking.

His point is that if you don't even know what tools are needed to port a head, you also most likely don't know what's involved to port a head successfully.

How big are you going to make the throat? As a % of the valve? How about your window at the short turn apex? Where is the smallest part of the port going to be? Remove most material from A. walls B. Roof C. Floor? Lay back the short turn or dont grind on it at all?
What valve job angles?

Nothing new here, if you really want to port the head, you should be able to answer all these questions. If you just want to run a cartridge roll over the head to get rid of the cast look, thats fine too, but dont call it ported.

ha. How did the before and after testing turn out? How do YOU define "porting"?

I can save a few bucks and paint my car with some spray bombs from the local auto parts store...technically it's still a paint job. I've painted 5 cars so far, a Camaro, two Mustangs, a Truck and one four door Civic....does that make me as good as a professional painter? Does it qualify me as knowing what I'm doing or doing quality work? Or does it mean I know lots of stupid people who'll let me near their vehicle with a spray can because "I say I know what I'm doing, therefore I do" ?

Nice logic buddy.
