timing belt change on my B18 and...poof
Looks like I'm in luck on the engine I have in my Mini. It is a JDM B18C type-R. All the little marks stamped in block and head seem to say so.
So I get to the point where I have everything loosened, made all my own line up marks, got the timing belt off and remove the crank pulley....the woodruff key vanishes. I never saw it. The pulley easily wiggled off and ....poof....gone.
Well, I was able to order one off eBay for $7.00 so I guess that's not too bad a lessen. I was terrified that I'd find out that the key could only be had with a new pulley as a kit or worse...the entire crankshaft. Imagine having to buy a crankshaft to get a woodruff key?! I'd be visiting a machine shop.
While I was surfing to find a new key I saw this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vibrant-B16-...#ht_2565wt_845
A Vibrant adjustable timing belt tensioner. Is this thing worth using? Anyone ever messed with one?

hmm...one of those adjustable cam belt tensioners requires leaving the plastic cover that covers the belt and pulleys off....I'm not doing that.

I was able to locate a key at my local Honda dealer. $4.50....and glad to pay it. I guess these get lost fairly frequently.
