tapping noise from my b16 head
i thought it was my LMA's, changed it and still have that tapping noise....what could be some symtoms of a tapping noise from a head??? the motor runs great though no problem just that tapping noise from the head that scares me....oh i did the valve adjustment too...still nothing changed....

I had this problem too, change LMA's for prelude LMA's, measured valve guide clearance, multiple valve adjustments and it still made the same sound and not from the injectors. I am putting in different rockers and rocker shafts this spring to see if it solves the problem.

Re: tapping noise from my b16 head (Quitripin)
k this is my info cause my homi had the same problem and we fixed it more then twice.
its going to be a floating retainer. i could be wrong but thats the exact same problem we had. just open the head and check if your retainers are loose. if so then tighten them. i forgot what size. you could check. if it keeps making the same sound then take it to a shop and ask to compress them. good luck man.

Mine has a tick too, but the sound eminates from the distributor or distributor input shaft that interfaces with the cam. I theorized that at idle the valve springs cause the cam to excellerate faster than the motor turns them as the valve stems come off the lobe peaks, thus causing the cam to "rattle" in the slack of the disty shaft and slot in the end of the cam.
The "ticking" would only get worse with stiffer springs and more aggressive cams

Re: (918-Hatch)
i use to have skunk2 stage 2 on this head before changing it back to stock b16 cams.....could that been the problem? when the stage 2 cams was on the head, it had a very loud tapping noise which i was told that it's normal for a skunk2 satge2 cam...but after installing the stock b16 cams, theres a tapping noise but just not as loud as the skunk2 stage 2.....motor still runs very strong but just got that tapping noise.....

Re: (saver)
hey i just did some research for you and this is wat you do. you take a 10mm rench and also a flat head screw driver. you. put the 10mm on the nut thats on the retainer and the spring. then you take the flat head on the valve stem, thats connected to the nut. (the valve is like the holder, its inside the spring thats on the bottom of the retainer, then you have a lil stem thats visible.) you hold the 10mm in place on the nut (thats on top of the retainer) then you tighten the flat head. this will make the valve to stop tapping. its your valve thats making that noice with the spring and retainer. good luck man if you have hard time let me know.

Re: (saver)
When you did the valve adjustment did you torque the nuts down to I think its 13 inch pounds? I same problem with the loud tapping noise when I put my valvetrain in my brother said it was normal, but I didn't believe him. So I did some research and found that you are suposse to torque the nut that sits on top of the valve spring. It may make the valve lash I bit smaller so when doing the valve adjustment you're suppose to set it like a .008 intake and .009 exhaust what I did was set it at .009 intake and .010 exhaust then when I torqued the nuts it ended up being pretty much dead on.

Check out the video on this page https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1552854 Is that the nosie you were hearing? A valve adjustment won't fix this. And you are supposed to tighten the nuts, on top of the springs, that are connected to the lifters. Any one have any other ideas?
