i built a 97x86 f23/f22a6 hybrid. thinking about going 97x89. would a square port be better for a stroker motor like this? never got a strait answer out of this thread.

A lot of those big square ports in those pics still have small throats...all the work was done in the entry. They do look fancy.

luke answered it quite nicely...


there is more to it than a square entry

throat sizing per valve size ratio
to displacement/rpm use matters alot...

csa does too but dependent on displacement and valve size and rpm
*square ports have bigger csa ofcourse

just like.. there is more to chambers than just deshrouding it

like pressure recovery aft the seats etc

Been racing this head for 4 years now it just keeps getting a minimal resurface, it made 278 at Ericks racing and 520/400 on nitrous. Shes coming back out in a few months and will hold 550hp down the track.

Last time out was 10.80 @131 with 420hp..in for some slips soon.

86x89 oe crank
