Slow, very slow?
Ok, so I bought a B18A1 block and had it re-sleeved by Golden Eagle with the new HD sleeve's and then got it bored out to 84mm and put some JE 9.1 pistons in there with Golden Eagle rods and rings. Also I'm using my B16A2 head and I put GSR camshafts and that's all I did to the head besides get it all cleaned up from a mechanic shop. And I got a ACT 6 puck clutch and got a P28 with a LS VTEC chip in it.
Just got the car running yesterday and no leaks. Took it for a drive and let me tell you, this thing is probably as slow as a stock ls. Before anyone jumps on me bout getting on it or what not, lets not get into that. It's my car and I hear all kinds of story's bout break in periods and what not then there's those that say just get on it right away cause it seals the rings better. But anyways it's slow. Super slow.
I'm starting to think that my valves need to be adjusted cause when I took it to the mechanic shop to get the head cleaned up I think they put all the valves in without adjusting them. And I'm also starting to consider the camshafts a player in this too. Might of got ripped off if there not GSR camshafts but couldn't tell the diffrence from my Si camshafts to the GSR ones. And also I have -8 NGK sparkplugs in there. I know those are way to cold but it's all I had for now and I'm gonna go get some 6's today. But other than that, it's all I can think of why it's running so damn slow. If anyone can help me out and maybe pinpoint on what it could be please let me know. Any help would be appreciated. Thx.
P.S. I did time it and it's at 16.

I would kick myself in the *** if it was. But I highly doubt it. I have the exact same set up as my buddy had before he went T3/4 in his civic and his civic would move. He even beat a RSX-S on 9lbs of boost when he raced with this setup. So I don't think it's the 9.1.

Well it is setup for a turbo application but I dont have one on there as we speak. Not til later on in the year. That's why I posted in the all motor section sense I was still all motor. Do you think I should take this to turbo section.

Re: Slow, very slow? (TAGURIT)
well yea man your compression is low as ****. lower than stock. there for its probably slower than stock. sounds like a nice thought out build but it wont do you much till you get some sort or forced induction to take advantage of the 9.1-1 compression.

When you build a motor for n/a/ use, generally you want to have at least 10:5.1 compression.....thats the only way it's going to be quick. Of course turbo motor mostly uses lower compression. Your motor is not going to be quick with what you have done right now, thats the bottom line. At this point just make sure everything is safe and won't break. Also, why did you waste your time putting gsr camshafts in? I don't understand why people think this is an "upgrade" for a b16....thats just dumb to me, anyways.....

Good luck man, and get that turbo on there asap

Re: Slow, very slow? (clean rice)
Only reason I put the GSR camshafts in was cause they have been proven time after time that they put out the most power when you go F/I. Only reason I got em.

ill go with that, it should be a little slower than stock casue the compression is lower, onceu slap on that turbo you'll be made in the shade

A machine shop can not adjust your valves, they must be done after the head is installed and torqued down, then the cams installed. Adj. them and check your cam timing.

just make sure you take out your spare tires, rear seats, poop before you leave the house to take off as much weight possible...it'll help a little before you go boost...

Re: Slow, very slow? (cpforyou)
lol, thx for the weight loss tip.
I just got the car back from getting the valves adj. and it runs a little quicker but nothing dramtic. I'm gonna take out those camshafts and see if the stock one's well help out. It seems weird but my buddy had the exact, I mean down to the bone same setup as I do except he kept his stock camshafts in and his was pretty quick for such a low compression engine. So that's why we're all like in awww.
